Mansfield Town secured their biggest win for quite some time with this demolition of the Shrews. Friday night games appear to suit Stags generally and Lee Peacock in particular who once again got amongst the goals much as in the game against Peterborough and could/should have emulated his hat trick heroics of that night.
Using a 3-4-3 formation Dearden opted for an attacking style but once again it was a solid performance by the defensive trio that formed the backbone for the fine endeavours at the other end. No Mark Blake this time, either, but the side looked the strongest that they have in some time despite a low-key start. Things starting turning in Mansfield favour when Peacock powered home a Roscoe free-kick on 26 minutes. The game was put beyond the visitors with 2 goals in three minutes just before half-time when first Sisson with a well-taken strike and then Lormor with a stooping header made the points safe for Stags. Lormors goal - his first this season - caused him to embark on a joyous celebration.
The second half saw Stags ease off a little - Peacock making the only addition five minutes before the end although he missed an earlier penalty. Relegation fears appear to be a thing of the past, now, and if the new-found consistency continues especially with two away games to come, the aspirations for this season will have to be raised dramatically.
