Joyce Marriott

A Little Background ...
Being one of the 10 cousins of the older generation, writing my bio seems weird. My parents were John & Vera Stahl Rogers & I have one sister, Nancy. We lived in Wayne & after graduating from high school & Stautzenberger Business School in Toledo, I went to work C. J. Stahl Texaco Co. as a
bookkeeper. After working there 3 years, I grew tired of Wayne & went to Weaver Airline School in Kansas City, Mo. & got a job with American Airlines in Chicago as a keypunch operator (before data recorders). Loved Chicago (this was early 60's), got married, had my daughter Trelesa, got divorced & went home to live with my mother (my dad had died when I was in Chicago). I worked at BGSU in their computer department. Met Don Marriott while I worked there. We got married in June, 1966, moved to Findlay, & have lived
in the same house for 34 years. I went to work for Marathon Oil Co. in 1967 and worked there 25 years & took early retirement June, 1992. In 1983, I started taking classes at Findlay College (now Univ. of Findlay) & got my AA degree in Accounting on Mother's Day, 1988. Mom was too sick to attend graduation but she was all for education & was very glad for me. She died the next week. 1988 was a very busy year for us. Don took early retirement from Chrysler Corp., Trelesa & Rich got married, Mom got sick & died, & our first grandchild, Varalyn Jae, was born. I've been working the last 5 years as a church secretary. Beats the corporate world.
Hobbies: Don was an antique collector, mainly primitive things, & restorer of antique cars. We visited quite a few antique stores & flea markets on weekends. We have 3 antique cars, a 1911 Brush Runabout (I'll try to find a picture to send), a '29 Model A roadster & a '31 Deluxe Model A roadster which we take on tour at least once a year. Our '11 Brush is a one cylinder car & we go on 1 & 2 cylinder car tours in Ohio, Ind., Ky., Mich., Pa., & once in southern Ill. This year's tour is practically at home, being in Napoleon, Ohio. Our three oldest granddaughters have each had a turn at
touring in our Model A roadster with a local 3-day tour based in Defiance.
My favorite hobbies are reading & sewing. I highly recommend the book "The House in Mitford" by Jan Karon. I also collect dolls. I have an unfinished quilt in Aunt Ellen Stahl Hill's quilting frame pieced for me by Aunt Lorene Stahl Bragg. Aunt Ellen always made one or two quilts every winter. This quilt has been in the frame for more than twelve years so I think I need some
help in finishing it. Saving it for retirement!
We love babysitting and spending time with our 5 grandchildren.
