The Church of
Moulton St. Mary, near Acle is set in a remote pastoral setting over a mile
from its village and although declared redundant - and now protected by the
Churches Conservation Trust - it came alive once again at the weekend for 'A
Celebration of Christmas'.
Volunteers had
worked hard to brighten up the interior - famous for its 14th century medieval
wall paintings - with beautiful floral and seasonal decorations and a
congregation of over one hundred filled the tiny church for the candlelit
service.
Stalham Brass
Band, under director of music Tim Thirst, welcomed everyone with a Christmas
music selection and also provided the music for the service.
Members of Acle
Primary School Choir gave renditions of 'Come With Me Tonight' and 'All
About You'.
Two excellent
solo performances - 'Walking in the Air' by Bethany Searle and 'Walking
In a Winter Wonderland' by Katie Duncan received well deserved applause. Later
- joined by Laura Dewing and Sally Smith - they performed a
comical version of 'Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer' and 'Ten Little Christmas
Trees'. The musical items were interspersed with festive readings and carols
sung by the congregation including a rousing finish with 'We Wish You A
Merry Christmas'. The Stalham Brass Band concluded the Celebration with more
Christmas music.
