A Prayer to Begin the Day
Creator God,
For the gift of rest which renews,
For the gift of this day stretching ahead of me,
For the possibilities and encounters with your people,
I give you thanks.
Grant that I will use this gift of time
in ways that are faith filled and helpful.
May I know your presence in all I undertake.
Be with me now as I enter the places this day will take me.
Amen.

A Prayer to End the Day
Creator God,
For the gift of this day and all its activity,
For the richness of the lives which have touched mine,
For all that I have been able to accomplish,
I give you thanks.
Grant that what I have done and said
will lift up and build up your people.
Where I have wronged others,
I ask your forgiveness and theirs.
I ask your help in forgiving myself.
May I know this night that you are with me,
Renewing me for another day of service
Amen.

When in Need of Help
Lord,
Are you really out there? Please listen to me. I'm confused and worried.
I don't know what or who to believe. Do you hear me, understand me and
care for me? Please help me Lord. Thank you. Amen.
When You Have Doubts
Dear God,
We all find things hard to believe, and our minds are filled with doubts.
Is there really a God? Why do we believe in something we cannot see? God
you know that we have faith, but the world's temptations often steer us
away. Guide us away from those temptations. Fill us with your Holy Spirit
to help us answer our doubts, and strengthen our faith and our love for
you and each other. Amen

A Prayer for Hope and Trust
(Thomas Merton)
Lord God, we have no idea where we are going.
We do not see the road ahead of us. We cannot know for certain
where it will end. Nor do we really know
ourselves, and the fact that we think we are following your will does
not mean that we are actually doing so.
But we believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you.
And we hope we have that desire in all that we are doing. We
hope that we will never do anything apart from that
desire.
And we know that if we do this, you will lead us by the right road,
though we may know nothing about it.
Therefore, we will trust you always though we may seem to be lost and
in the shadow of death.
We will not fear, for you are ever with us, and you will never leave
us to face our perils alone. Amen.

Lord of my life,
I am the place where you shine through,
For you and I are one, not two.
I need not fear, nor fret, nor plan,
You want me where and as I am.
And if I am relaxed and free,
You work your purpose out through me.

Prayer of Hope in Twilight
of Life
O God, who has created us in all our diversity
and marvellous complexity, be with us in all stages of life.
Support those with faltering health, and the lonely because of
loss of spouse or friends and who now wonder how life will end .Their hope
is in thee, their protector and help, and
guide us to help all who suffer.

A Parent's Prayer
Moonlight traced the curved outline of a baby's cheek and warm breath
of a child touched gently on my shoulder. I snuggled the small bodies closer
to me and hot tears splashed on my cheeks. They are indeed the flesh of
my flesh, but they are not my creation. I love them with a passion that
goes to my very core, but they are not mine to own!
God, help me to appreciate the uniqueness and separateness of my children.
Help me to see them as your children, lent to us to love, nurture, and
care for. Allow them to grow as the individuals you designed them to be,
and let me share with each of them your joyful blessings along our way.
May the love that our children feel as part of my family help them to
know the infinite love you have for all of us.

Prayer for Those Serving
in the Armed Forces
Gracious God, protect our Canadian military men and women in foreign
countries from harm and danger, be their task as peace keepers or defenders
fighting terrorism. Give them the wisdom to make good decisions and may
they be a ray of hope for people who are in harm's way.
Dear God, please place the seeds of Peace into the hearts of those who
cause human suffering. Lift up the spirit of those who are victims and
may our forces be a help to them.

Prayers of Thanksgiving
God of Grace, thank you for loving us first. Help us to respond to your
love so that we in all we are and do, our love for you comes first. In
Christ we pray. Amen.

Thanks for the warmth of our homes in the winter, and their coolness
in the summer.
Thank you for listening to our prayers and giving us persons to share
our lives.
We are thankful for all the warmth and kindness you have given us.
