Rev. Dr. Jean Barkley, B.A. (Hon), M.Div., D. Min.

The Rev. Dr. Jean Barkley is a minister of the United Church of Canada. Prior to joining St. Andrew's by-the-Lake in its ministry in September of 2001, she was Director of Studies at United Theological College, McGill University, Montreal.  There she was responsible for the college's Field Education program and taught Leadership in Ministry and Theology of Ministry. Jean has served in a team ministry at Glebe-St. James United Church in Ottawa and in a two-point  pastoral charge, Sutton-Dunham in Quebec's Eastern Townships. Apart from enjoying the wide variety of activities available in pastoral ministry, Jean has special interests in pastoral care, supporting lay leadership in the church, and education for faith development.

Frances Harkness,  B.A., MEd, ARCT, ARCCO Director  of Music

Frances is a graduate of the University of Toronto in Modern Languages. She also has a Master's degree in Education and is an Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto, as well as an Associate of the Royal Canadian Conservatory of Organists.  In Kingston she has a large private teaching studio in piano and is a well known accompanist for various soloists and for the Melos chamber choir. At St. Andrew's by-the-Lake United Church, she directs a growing and committed senior choir. She also is involved with Music West, which presents music and drama performances at low cost at the church in west Kingston.

 

Frances Raven, BA(Hon), Church Secretary

Fran has worked mostly in service related positions, and likes working with people.  She has an Honours BA in English and Art History, and over the years has expanded her studies in secretarial, administrative, financial and graphic courses . She is also involved in gardening and creative arts. She and her late husband started the first computeized graphic design bureau in Kingston in 1986. This graphic design and pre-press business, continues to operate.. Fran enjoys serving the Lord and his church at St. Andrew’s by-the-Lake
