Students, workers and teachers of Lidcombe TAFE

Of course, like every public institution, Lidcombe TAFE needs more money. More full time teachers need to be employed. There needs to be more staff and better facilities for both staff and students Of course the governments plans to privatise, cut back and increase fees must be fought-- tooth and nail. BUt there is one form of cost cutting we certainly must object to -- the use of unemployed slave labour in the form of work for the dole. Work for the dole providor H and H is utilising unemployed to carry out slave labour at Lidcombe TAFE. The work offered is hardly light. Unemployed ae offered carpentry, painting, tiling and landscaping. Hard labour for ten dollars per week on top of dole payments. The unemployed will receive no qualification for this. They will be in no way better off in terms of finding work.A survey in Victoria has found unemployed who do work for the dole are actually less likely to find satisfactory employment.

But what about those who are carpenter of painters and depend on this type of work for their livlihood? Work for the dole is attacking jobs. The TAFE authorities, by utilising H and H and their slave labour schemes, are saving on overtime, workers compenstion, holiday pay and of course wages. This legal slavery must be stopped.

StandUp! urges everyone involved at Lidcombe TAFE to do their utmost to smash this legal slavery. We urge strong rsolutions from student and staff associations. We urge industrial action from trade unions. WE demand that all work be paid for at a proper rate. Real jobs for real wages! We urge protest to continue untill all work on this TAFE is carried out by completely unionised  labour.
No to slave labour, scab labour scheme!

The work for the dole providor H and H is notorious for initiating schemes which deliberately undermine job such as nuses and teachers aids, gardeners and park labourers, painters, tilers and carpenters. They hav a conscious policy of utilising unemployed labour to attck the workforce.

StandUp! is organising against work for the dole and work for the dole providors. Whilst we are opposing all of them, we are particularly targeting H and H the most vicious and ruthless providor.
