Welcome back everyone and welcome to our new students and families!

We are in great shape as we start the new year. I am so pleased with the teachers and staff we have. We will do our best to foster within the children a love of learning and the pursuit of excellence. The theme for this school year is May Peace Abound. We will be encouraging our children to discover ways that promote and celebrate peace in our school, our community, and our world.

Our Trees and Gardens – The Beauty of Nature in our Schoolyard
We thank Aazadeh Madani and Ann Coffey who worked so hard in our gardens during the summer. Our goal is to preserve the beauty that is there by putting in ways that help children protect our trees, plants and shrubs, now that they are well established. We also thank the students and parents who helped with the gardens and cleanup. We have a wonderful community of sharing as also shown by the help provided by four students from Cambridge School.

School Organization
We welcome Miss Patti McAllister and Miss Heidi Maglaras to our staff. Miss McAllister has a degree in Music and will be helping us further enrich our program in the Arts. Miss Maglaras will be helping children with special needs as an educational teaching assistant.

Meet the Teacher Night and School Council Elections
Meet the Teacher Night will take place on Thursday, September 19, at 7 pm. and this year we will be having our students help in leading this event. Also, we hope that all parents will attend the election meeting of your Parent Council at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24 in our School Library. It is so important for parents to support our school. Research shows that PARENT INVOLVEMENT MAKES A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE in building a quality school. Let’s work together to promote excellence with our children!

Monthly Calendars
The September Calendar will be going home with this newsletter. Keep it handy as all important dates are noted. This year we will be recognizing student achievement through St. Anthony Gold Star Assemblies that focus on different themes. The Literacy Awards Assembly, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Bytown will continue this year on a monthly basis.

The bus leaves the school in the afternoon at 3 p.m. If you have any concerns or questions you may contact the Transportation Department at 723-4311.
The route: Bus departs at 7:55 a.m. from Preston and Spruce; then to Preston and Primrose, Bronson and Somerset, Wellington and Booth, Plymouth and Bell, Bell and Henry, Cambridge S and Clemow.

Arriving by Automobile
This year we ask that children arriving by automobile be picked up and dropped off on Willow Street at the north end of the yard. Parents may also drop off the children at the gate inside the parking lot. For the safety of children, the City has put a “No Stopping Zone” and a “Bus Only Loading Zone” on Booth Street in front of the school.
