Life in Louisiana

Cocker puppies in the Mardi Gras spirit We only recently relocated to Louisiana.  I am originally from Sacramento, California.  Here in Louisiana they have this great tradition called Mardi Gras.  Believe me, too -- the people here CELEBRATE!  I had no clue what Mardi Gras was.  Of Course, I had heard of the celebration but that was the extent of it to me -- heard of it.  Mardi Gras is a FULL BLOWN reason to PARTY!  The parades here go for 2 weeks!  The French Quarter is where the mainstream partiers have their fun but you can have just as much fun in all the outskirts too.

A pic from the Mardipaws parade You may have heard about all the beautiful girls in the French Quarter, but you can also have fun at Mardi Gras if you are a dog.  (Pun intended.)  Seriously, Mardi Gras is not limited to humans...  far from it!  We discovered this year that dogs too can join in the celebration.

Click here for more info I first heard about Mardi Gras for the dogs on The Travel Channel.  They did a whole show on the Krewe of Barkus.  The Krewe of Barkus has a King, Queen and the entire Royal Court, complete with a celebrity host.  Check out their website.  My kids, dogs and I intend to be in this parade next year, as well as in The Mystic Krewe of Mardi Paws Parade.  www.mardipaws.com

Cocker puppies with Mardi Gras beads If you have never done a Mardi Gras parade before you will LOVE these as well as the typical "people" parades.  Parades are for everyone and the fun for families is wonderful.  The kids catch bags and bags of beads and the people that attend are so friendly and wonderful.  A great time is to be had by all!
