Episode 6:

Synopsis:

David is being made redundant and, despite his assurances, the employees don't seem too upset.David Brent Much to everyone's amusement, a woman phones Gareth and asks him if he's bringing 'the toys'. Neil offers Tim the post of caretaker manager, but he declines and tells Neil to give it to Gareth. After the kiss on red nose day, Tim dumps Rachel and impulsively decides to tell Dawn about his feelings for her. She says no and decides to live in America with Lee. When formally offered a redundancy by Neil and Jennifer, David breaks down, finally forgetting his pride and begging for his job back. He is refused and the show ends with these words from him:

"Life is just a series of peaks and troughs, and you don't whether you're in a trough until you're climbing out, or on a peak until you're coming down. And that's it, you know, you never know what's round the corner. But it's all good. 'If you want the rainbow you've got to put up with the rain'. Do you know which 'philosopher' said that? Dolly Parton. And people say she's just a big pair of tits."

Quotes:

Dawn: A real relationship isn’t like a fairy tale. If you think that, for the next forty years, every time you see each other you’re going to glow, or, every time you hold hands there’s going to be electricity, then you’re kidding yourself really. What about reliability, or someone paying the mortgage, or someone who’s never been out of work. Those are the more important, practical things, you know, in reality.

Tim: You got good buttocks, Gareth?
Gareth: Yes.
Tim: Can we see them?
Gareth: No, gay.

DavidBrent's Philosophy
I can’t imagine Jesus going ‘Oh, I’ve told a few people in Bethlehem I’m the son of God, can I just stay here with Mum and Dad now?’ No, you've gotta move on, you've gotta spread the word. You've gotta go to Nazareth, please. And that’s, very much like- me. My world does not end within these four walls. Slough’s a big place. And when I’ve finished with Slough, there’s Reading, Aldershot, Bracknell. You know, I’ve got to-Didcott, Yately. You know. My-Winersh. Taplow.
Most embarrassing moment
Nothing that embarrasing this episode, but the best bit has to be Tim finally asking out Dawn, closely followed by David's hilarious final speech (see above). If this is the last series, what a brilliant way to end the show.
