Mystikal, aka Michael Ernest Tyler, was born on September 22 (he's 26) in the 12th ward of New Orleans. He attended Cohen Sr. High school and then went to Grambling. He discovered his musical talents when he entered his high school talent show. He also developed the unique style he has now during those years. People used to tell him he sounded like LL Cool J when he freestyled, so he decided he had to distinguish himself from everyone else.
After releasing his first album, "Mind of Mystikal", with Big Boy Records, Mystikal (then Mike) became more well known. After the release, his sister, Michelle Tyler, was murdered by her boyfriend Damion Neville (grandson of Charles Neville of the Neville Brothers). Michelle sang the chorus in "Not That Nigga" (off of Mystikal's first album).
When Mystikal signed on with Jive records, he re-released "Mind of Mystikal" and gained recognition from the public and other record execs. as well.
Mystikal later collaborated with No Limit on many projects. During this time people really started to notice his talents (F.Y.I. Mystical is no longer apart of No Limit). |
