Sailor Suited Soldier of Water and Wisdom


Undoubtedly the most reserved of the Sailor team is the girl brainiac Ami Mizuno. A shy, quiet girl involved too much in her studies, Ami is an outcast at Juuban Junior High: she eats lunch by herself on the school roof, she's never been truly close to anyone before in order to use the "-chan" honorary when calling someone by name.

This all changes when Luna suspects her of being the next Senshi and has Usagi investigate. Usagi attempts to become friends with Ami, and reveals her Senshi heritage to the confused lonely girl. Ami flatout refuses to be Usagi's friend, because she thinks she wanted to be friends only because Ami was this "senshi," and, heartbroken over the lost chance to finally have a friend, Ami heads for the roof.

Usagi's display of compassion towards Ami while trying to save her life makes Ami reconsider her choice, and Luna grants her the ability to turn into Sailormercury.

Thus begins a long process of Ami coming out of her shell. Since she's never had a friend before and always relies on textbooks, Ami attempts to use a "how to" book to become close to Usagi. She has trouble feeling accepted by the other members of the team, but believes that they all can work together. Although she may not have the strongest powers, Ami is a very determined fighter, facing Kunzite, one of the strongest Shitennou, not only once, but twice, by herself. During one of these instances, Mercury draws on the power of the water to create a sword to defend herself against Kunzite. Ami's mother is a very successful doctor, but hardly ever home--in fact, Ami communicates with her mother via a message board in the Mizuno kitchen, and her lunches are store-bought in contrast to a good homemade meal. Ami has a dream to become a doctor like her mother.





Each senshi has her own specific "salute" that reflects her home planet. Sailormercury extends her thumb and first two fingers, much like the American Sign Language sign for the number three. All the senshi share the "I'll punish you" hand sign, the two middle fingers tucked under the thumb and the pointer and pinkie fingers extended.



Powers

"Mercury Power, Make Up!" Ami uses the power of her bracelet to transform into Sailor Mercury. She glides her right hand over her bracelet to apply sparkling blue nail polish, then crosses her hands to finish the nails on the other hand. She swings her arm over her face to transform her hair into its form as Mercury with short blue hair. Holding her elbow up, she spins around as bubbles surround her. Swinging her arms up, she makes her gloves appear, then swipes her hands over her legs to form her boots. Moving her left hand in a great arch, Mercury completes the rest of her outfit as her brooch shines and her hand trails bubbles. She then moves her hand in its salute across her forehead to form her tiara and poses as a drop of water splashes behind her.

"Mercury Aqua Mist!" Mercury holds her left hand up in its salute and her bracelet shines as it powers up. Mercury holds her hands out then brings them up over her head as she crosses her feet and spins, water swirling into a globe in front of her. She then jumps and places her feet and arms apart, then slowly crosses her arms in front of her as the water sprays forth in a great wave, dissolving the enemy in a cloud of mist.

"Shine Aqua Illusion!" Mercury crosses her hands twice quickly over her chest, then thrusts them out with her left hand up and right hand to the side. She slowly rotates them above her head, then draws them into her chest and pushes out with her right hand, sending a misty swirl of water to her opponent.

"Mercury Aqua Storm!" This attack is the same as Shine Aqua Illusion, only Mercury powers up holding her Sailor Star Tambourine in her right hand and sends the attack through the weapon.

"Mercury Aqua Cyclone!" Mercury thrusts her crossed hands out in front of her, drawing them slowly around in a circle as bubbles form. She pulls them in tight to her chest as her tiara shines, then pushes them back out with the wrists still crossed as shining water shoots out from them.

Mercury Bubble Stream No name for this attack, so I thought I'd make one up--not really a big attack, but I thought it was worth mentioning. This is her awakened power, remaining true to the original manga in that it resembles her Mist attack (and uses bubbles like in Shabon Spray from the anime) but has no name. Bubbles shoot out from her hand as she holds them in front of her. She can also power up by drawing her hands in front of her slowly, then swinging them out again into their powerup position for Mist while bubble float around her. This attack can be used for defensive means (she uses it to prevent a youma from grabbing her falling tambourine by suspending the tambourine in the air) or offensive.

Mercury's other powers include listening to water--she uses this technique in Act 5 when locating a hidden youma--and forming an ice sword out of water. images coming soon
