The
Starbase’s Science Department has a different function than most
Science Departments on Starships. While a Science Department on a
Starbase may occasionally perform the same duties, its main duties
are perhaps more in volume. The science department on this base is
responsible for Federation Science information updates, archiving
and reading incoming Science and Sensor logs from all Federation
vessels that dock here, distribution of science updates to
starships docking, overseeing requisitions of new parts pertinent to
the Scientific equipment on Starships, and installation of such.
Also, this department is responsible for scientific problem solving
on the station, recording and study of scientific phenomenon within
base sensor range, and the study of Liberty II, which the Starbase
orbits.
Chief
Science Officer:
The Chief Science Officer is in charge of coordinating all of the
duties of the department, approving (and sometimes making)
department schedules, and keeping the paperwork end of the
department in order. Also, it is the CSci’s duty to attend
all senior staff meetings, and to work Alpha shift either in Main
Science or in Operations, and to be available to others in the
department for advice and assistance upon request. This position
requires the player to post as time allows.
Assistant Chief Science Officer:
To assist the Chief Science Officer in their duties, and, during
times when the Chief Science Officer is not available, serve in that
position when necessary. To write preliminary work schedules for the
department. This position requires the player to post at least 2x a
week, hopefully more.
Science Officer:
The “hands” of the department, Science officers get
themselves in the “meat” of the department, dealing with
incoming data and sending data requested. A science officer will
sometimes be required to go on Away Teams when necessary, and will
report directly to the Assistant CSci or the CSci themselves during
and after completion of their duties. This position requires the
player to post at least once a week.
