Author: Mackie, charmed_mac@hotmail.com Summary: It’s a short story about a dance they share. Rating: PG-13 Class: H/M romance (of course) I don’t own the characters, they belong to Donald Bellisario, CBS and maybe others. No copyright infringement is intended and I don’t make any money with this. The song used is ‘What If I Said’ by Anita Cochran and Steve Wariner. Harm and Mac were in Mac’s appartement and had just finished dinner after going over a case. “Well, did you like it?” “Yeah.” “Maybe I should cook for you more often then” She said with a wide smile. He knew very well she said it to tease him, indicating he couldn’t cook. But he could, she knew that and he knew she did. He came up behind her and put his hands on her shoulders. “I hope you do because it was really great” She felt a shiver run through her spine. For a moment, nothing happened. Then he released her and she continued putting away the dishes, he helped her. He didn’t know why he’d done that, it was an impuls and he was afraid he had done something stupid now. The radio was still playing softly. Mac was standing in front of the window, thinking of what had just happened. The tunes of a song started to play. She felt Harm coming up behind her. He had decided to go a little further, to find out what it had meant. He held her hand and turned her around. Without a word he put his arm around her waist. She looked up at him, surprised but laid her hand on the back of his shoulder. Slowly both of them started to move. The song was one of Mac’s favorites although she didn’t understand why it had to be on right now. A female voice started to sing. We’ve been friends for a long, long time. You tell me your secrets, and I tell you mine She’s left you all alone and you feel like no one cares But I’ve never failed you, I’ve always been there It was a song Harm had always liked. It fit the description of his feelings perfectly. Mac moved a little closer to Harm, who was tenderly holding her. She looked up at him and met his eyes. She then turned them away, afraid she couldn’t take another look into those heavenly blue-green eyes. A male voice was heard. You tell your story, it sounds a bit like mine It’s the same old situation, it happens every time. Can’t we see, oh maybe you and me Is what’s meant to be, or do we disagree. As the chorus came, Harm moved her yet a little bit closer and she responded by resting her head against him. Very softly she whispered the words of the female singer. It was very faint but Harm heard it and he joined her in whispering along with the male singer. What if I told you? What if I said? That I love you How would you feel? What would you think? What would we do? Do we dare to cross that line between your heart and mine? or would I loose a friend Oh or find a love that would never end What if I said As the singers both said the words, their voices became louder and so did Harm and Mac’s. Still very soft but audible. The female sang the next part and so Harm listened to Mac’s beautiful, soft voice. She doesn’t love you, oh it’s plain to see I can read between the lines of what you’re telling me ~Harm took over~ And he doesn’t hold you, the way a woman should be held How long can I go on keeping these feelings to myself. Mac briefly thought about that. Harm held her exactly the way a woman, or at least, how she needed to be held. She wondered if he really loved her, as she heard him faintly sing the words. No, she told herself, it was just the song and her imagination fooling her. So what if I told you What if I said That I love you How would you feel What would you think What would we do Do we dare to cross that line between your heart and mine Or would I loose a friend Oh or find a love that would never end A single tear crossed Mac’s cheek. She thought of what would happen if they would admit their love for each other. No she corrected herself, what would happen if she would admit her love for him. He didn’t love her, not the way she loved him. Oh we both had our share of loneliness So who’s to say that we can’t have a little happiness And if I found that in you It would make my dreams come true Or would you walk away Hear what I have to say He prayed she meant the words as she sung with him. But she didn’t because she had never loved him the way he loved her. It tore him apart, he would never be able to tell her that he loved her. Because he didn’t know if he could take her rejection. What if I told you What if I said That I love you How would you feel What would you think What would we do Oh do we dare to cross that line between your heart and mine I’ve always wondered from the day that we met What if I said What if I said Ooh what if I said As the last tunes of the songs faded away, the couple stopped dancing but couldn’t break apart. Tears were streaming now. She hated herself for that. She didn’t want to break away, not only because it felt so secure and comfortable, but he couldn’t see her crying. She wouldn’t have had a problem with it under different circumstances, but if he saw her crying now, he would know that she loved him so deeply. He couldn’t know that because he would get that sad look in his eyes, he didn’t love her that way. Harm didn’t want to break away either but he knew he had to. Finally Mac lifted her head and he released her just enough to see her face, and the tears rolling over her cheeks. She looked down. What he saw, he couldn’t believe. Did this really mean that she loved him, no it couldn’t be. His eyes showed certain sadness. Mac couldn’t see but she knew it and couldn’t take it, she quickly tilted her head even more downwards and damned herself for ever dancing with him. He knew for sure now, at least he thought so, he was still somewhat insecure. Then he raised his hand and cupped her chin. Slowly he lifted her head. She refused to look at him and it tore his heart seeing her like this, deep inside knowing he caused this. Finally she looked him in the eyes and faced what she was so afraid of. In his eyes she read sadness, but also tenderness and even love, but reasoned that she was fooling herself. Harm knew he couldn’t back down now, he couldn’t run from it anymore so he decided to take the dive. Before she realized it, her lips where sealed with his. Confused and insecure she pulled back a little. Harm decided that this time, he wouldn’t let her slip and deepened the kiss. It broke down all of her defense and she leaned against him, tilting her head backward to better receive his kiss. It was firm but tender and it told her everything she needed to know. True love was what he felt. A tear of happiness spilled from the corner of his eye and made it’s way down his cheek and landed on Mac’s. They pulled back with a gasp. He gently brushed the remaining tears of her face and put a streak of hear back, behind her ear. “What would happen if I told you?” “I’d tell you back” she replied He embraced her and pulled her tightly against him as she flung her arms around his neck, burying her face in his neck while he gently stroked her hair with one hand. “I love you, Sarah” “I love you too, Harm” THE END Feedback, plz I need feedback in order to improve any of my upcoming stories….
