HISTORY

Koriand'r is the second born of King Myand'r and Queen Luand'r, rulers of the planet Tamaran. She lived an ideal life on the planet of free emotions, except for her conflicts with her sister, Komand'r. Koriand'r loved being able to soar through the air, and tried to love her sister as best she could, but Komand'r's bitterness stopped that. Because of Komand'r's sickliness, Koriand'r received the right of ascension from her sister, which only fuelled the conflict between the two. Koriand'r first learned of Komand'r's brutality when she was beaten by Komand'r after an attack by the Citadel. Komand'r claimed that Koriand'r had laughed at her because she could not fly. Koriand'r denied this saying that Komand'r hated her because she couldn't fly. Komand'r replied back saying "I don't need to fly. I have all the power I need here in my fists." A few months later the two sisters were taken to the dead moon of Okaara to be trained there by the warlords. More time went by as the two sisters were taught how to fight and win. One of the rituals involved was called Kynasf'rr, The Way of the Warrior. Two warlords took both Komand'r and Koriand'r down a dark tunnel to begin the ritual. While Komand'r was silent and accepted what she had to do, Koriand'r pleaded with her father and mother to not have them take her away from them. It wasn't until her scream echoed through the cavern that her father let go of his queen's hand and rushed pass the Warlord to rescue his daughter. A few days later, during another training exercise Komand'r showed the true extent of her treachery when she killed the mount Koriand'r was on, lassoed her sister, and dragged her along the cave floor. Koriand'r managed to cut herself free, and threw a shield at Komand'r's mount. Instead of falling to the floor, both Komand'r and her mount fell over the side of a cliff wall. Koriand'r raced down and saved her sister from death, which Komand'r repayed by beating her sister mercilessly until stopped by the Warlords. Disgusted with her performance and her actions, the Warlord's banished Komand'r from Okaara. Komand'r never returned to Tamaran. The Royal family returned to Tamaran, confident in the new defences they had set up. Their defences were bypassed though as a new Citadel fleet attacked the planet killing 5 million people. Finally, a truce was made only to have dire consequences. Koriand'r was given up by her father, Myand'r, in an effort to preserve peace on Tamaran. Koriand'r arrived on the Citadel ship only to find her sister in charge. The next six years were made up of pain, humiliation, and abuse by her sister. Koriand'r never gave up and submitted to her sister though, which at times brought harsher punishment. This struggle between the siblings ended though when the ship they were on was attacked and disabled by the Psions. The two sisters were then subjected to multiple experiments, one of which included their ability to store solar energy. The experiment was interrupted by an attack, which overloaded the machines the sisters were attached to. The resulting explosion scattered the pair as the Psion ship was boarded. Koriand'r woke up first and disabled some attackers with her new ability to fire the solar energy as destructive energy she called starbolts. Trying to help her sister, Koriand'r was attacked an knocked unconscious for her help by her sister's own starbolts. Taken prisoner again by her sister, Koriand'r remained captive until she took advantage of a guard and killed him. She then escaped the slave ship she was on and commandeered a shuttle and fled into space, finally arriving on Earth.

She crashed landed on Earth, but was rescued by Grant Wilson who brought her to his apartment and nursed her wounds. Followed by the Gordanians, she was again captured by them, but the Titans rescued Koriand'r from their ship and wired it to explode as it flew away from Earth. Starfire stayed with the Titans, sticking close to Wonder Girl and Raven at first. The female members of the Titans were called by Kid Flash to the waterfront, where they disabled a drug theft operation. Nightwing lunged at Starfire, the name the Titans gave Koriand'r because of her powers, when she began to destroy all the evidence. Sensing that Nightwing was frustrated that he couldn't understand her language and that she couldn't understand theirs, Starfire kissed him. A moment later, she spoke to Nightwing in English, having absorbed the English language from him. With the language barrier shattered, Starfire stayed with the Titans as they relaxed at Changeling's mansion.

Upon returning to New York, she was attacked by Gordanians who then succeeded in capturing Starfire and bringing her back to her sister Komand'r who had taken the name of Blackfire. The Titans followed her into space and with the help of the Omega Men succeeded in rescuing her. Her fight with Komand'r ended on her home planet of Tamaran where the two duelled across the countryside until they both fell over a waterfall. Recovering with help from Raven, Starfire was reunited with her brother Ryand'r and her parents for the first time in years. Her reunion was short though as her father revealed that if she was to stay the planet would be destroyed.

On the flight back to Earth, Nightwing approached Kori and said that he would like to get into a relationship with her, telling her that it may be difficult due to being raised by Batman. The two agreed to work things out though and slowly began a relationship.

When the Crisis first started, Kori worked with the Titans on Earth to try to prevent the loss of life any way they could. A few days later though, all of the Titans were transported on board a starship piloted by Captain Karras, telling Starfire that she had to return to Tamaran. All but Nightwing, Jericho, and Starfire returned to Earth as the ship headed for Tamaran. On the way, she talked with Nightwing who said that he felt something was being hidden from them but didn't know what. Kori told him not to worry and that everything would be fine not knowing that they were being watched by Taryia, the woman who loved Karras. Arriving on Tamaran she was quickly reunited with her parents. Later, a transmission between Kori and her brother is interrupted when the ship he is on goes into warp. Dick tries to tell her again that something is going on as Komand'r watches them in her room.

The next night after a hunting trip, Kori is told by her father that she can never return to Earth. He also then explains that in order to keep the peace on the planet, she must marry a man from another house on the planet. Karras then speaks up saying that he is the one she must marry despite Dick and Kori's protests. The next day Kori found herself against the Omega Men, including her brother but finally managed to defeat them with the help of Joe Wilson. Kori offered to help the Omega Men search for the goddess X'Hal, but stopped to look for Dick who had disappeared. She found him outside, frustrated that she wouldn't go against her father in the marriage. She was shocked when he said it over between them if she went through with the marriage. She finally got some sleep after talking with her brother.

She woke up the next morning to discover Tariya and Karras talking with each other reaffirming each other's love for each other, discovering that he did not want to go through the marriage like she didn't. Later, she is dressed in her wedding gown and goes through the streets of the city on her wedding march. Arriving at the steps of a statue of X'Hal, Kori turns to see Dick, Joey, and her brother arrive. Waiting for Dick to say something, she is saddened to see him turn away as she is joined with Karras. As soon as the wedding is done though, Komand'r attacks the city. Kori attacks her sister one on one, but stops when she finds out that a bomb has been placed in the city and will detonate unless their father abdicates the throne. Komand'r laughs at Koriand'r, telling her that if she had waited a few more minutes the wedding wouldn't have happened. Later King Myand'r leaves the throne to Komand'r after hearing the people shout her name.

Koriand'r and her parnets are placed on a ship in orbit around Tamaran as Komand'r begins a speech to the people of the planet. As the ship is travelling to the planet Okarra, one of the guards on the ship puts Kori and her parents in an escape pod and flies them away from the ship as it explodes. On the planet Okaara, Kori is soon reunited with Karras, not saying a word to Dick. The next few days she trains with the Warlords and the few people of Tamaran that are loyal to the King. She is finally confronted by Dick though, who tells her to forget she ever knew him. As he leaves Okarra, Kori's echoes of "I Love You" travel through the caverns. After Dick has left, she finds comfort in Karras' arms.

In an alternate time-line, Kori renounced her title and for the love of Dick. They grew to have a long stable relationship, culminating in Starfire's impregnation with Dick's child. Shortly after this, Impulse is manipulated into almost destroy the Universe, causing Starfire to shift from her own reality into the final one, where her counter-part self had died sometime before in the battle against the Avatar. POWERS

Starfire's genetic makeup allows her to naturally fly. When she does, her long hair creates a trail behind her, which dissipates soon after her passing. She is also able to absorb the language of others through physical contact. Her preference is to kiss the opposite person, which although may get her into more trouble, is much more enjoyable.

Due to the experimentation by the Psions, Starfire now can fire solar energy bolts from her hands, called 'starbolts'. These bolts are absorbed by exposure to a sun, allowing her skin to absorb the rays and convert it into the energy she can fire. Starfire also exhibits greater strength, endurance, and speed.

Starfire grew up in a palace on a tropical paradise, but endured a Hellish adolescence, six years of torture, slavery and degradation. After escaping to Earth, she adopted the name Starfire and joined the Teen Titans.

Starfire is a titan from the Tamaran planet. She now lives on earth with the other Titans. Her powers are...Star bolts, Laser eyes (following her Tamaranian transformation stage) She always has a good attitude and is the most sensitive of the group. She sometimes annoys the other titans with her Tamaranean ways but oh well she trys.

Princess Koriand’r of the planet Tamaran was given up to slavery in order to keep her world free. In an experiment at the hands of the Psions, she gained the ability to absorb energy and project it in destructive “starbolts.” Escaping captivity, she found herself on Earth, where she used these powers, her natural flight ability, and her childhood warrior training as a member of the New Teen Titans.

Her years with the Titans encompassed a modeling career as Kory Anders, a long-term relationship with Dick Grayson (a.k.a. Nightwing), and a constant struggle against her warrior nature. During this time they opposed her sister Komand’r’s plans of conquest a number of times. Kory was forced into a brief marriage of state to prevent a Tamaranian civil war, a power struggle ultimately resolved when a wiser Komand’r came to rule a unified Tamaran. Starfire’s husband, however, was killed.

Ultimately, Koriand’r’s relationship with Dick broke down as she chose to embrace her Tamaranian heritage. She returned to Tamaran, married General Phy’zzon, and participated in the evacuation of her homeworld when it was destroyed (New Titans #128, 1994).

Tragically, only a short time after her people relocated, New Tamaran’s sun was destroyed, and Starfire was the only one on the planet to escape the destruction of their second home (The Final Night Preview, 1996). She adventured in space for a time, then returned to Earth, working with the Titans again. When she learned of a band of survivors, she helped them invade Karna, the Gordanian homeworld, an action which was resolved diplomatically by the Titans’ Tempest, allowing the Tamaranians to settle there peacefully. Koriand’r remained there as their leader (Titans #16–18, 2000). Shortly afterward, Karna was destroyed by Imperiex (Our Worlds At War: Secret Files, 2001). Koriand’r and her brother survived aboard the flagship of the defense fleet. It is not known how many other Tamaranians were off-world at the time.

Starfire has returned to Earth, the only home she has left.

Koriand'r is the second of three children born to Tamaran's ruling family. Komand'r, her older sister, was born deformed by Tamaranean standards. Unable to fly, she was deemed incapable to eventually rule the world as its Queen. The royal line was instead handed down to her younger sister, Koriand'r.

Komand'r resented Koriand'r's eventual ascension and hated her sister. A deep rivalry grew between the two with Komand'r plotting to harm her sister in any way possible.

In time, the sisters were sent for training to the Warlords of Okaara. There they would learn not only the art of combat, but the rules for governing. Tamaran was a planet of conflicting emotions. They embraced peace and love, but were quick to anger and fierce in war.

The conflict between sisters grew, and Komand'r finally left Tamaran and joined with her planet's greatest enemies, the Citadel. The Citadel already ruled the other 21 Vegan worlds, and only Tamaran was permitted its freedom. Until now.

The Citadel invaded peaceful Tamaran and quickly crippled its defenses. They demanded that King Myand'r turn over his daughter, Koriand'r, to the Citadel in exchange for peace. Myand'r accepted. His daughter would be sacrificed, but the paradise that was Tamaran would endure

Komand'r banished her sister into humiliating slavery for six harsh years. But during it all Koriand'r never gave up hope.

Eventually, Koriand'r and Komand'r were captured by the Psions, a race of soulless alien scientists who experimented on living beings. In an effort to see how much solar energy the body would endure before being destroyed, the Psions subjected the two sisters to endless grueling experiments. Unknown to the Psions, the Tamaranean body was capable of absorbing solar power - which gave them the ability to fly. Instead of destroying their captives, the Psions gave the sisters the ability to absorb the energy and then expel it in ferocious destructive blasts called Starbolts.

Enter: The New Teen Titans

The sisters escaped and Koriand'r eventually made it to Earth where she was found by a group of young heroes who would come to call themselves The New Teen Titans.

The newly formed group traveled to Tamaran and vanquished the Citadel and Psions, freeing Tamaran. Koriand'r returned to Earth with Robin, the leader of the Teen Titans and the man she came to love.

A Marriage of State

Later, Koriand'r was returned to Tamaran to learn that the planet was about to be plunged into a civil war. In order to keep peace between me ruling houses of Tamaran, Myand'r pledged that his daughter would marry Karras, heir to the ruling Southern continent. This would be a political marriage as both Koriand'r and Karras loved others.

Koriand'r went through with the marriage although it put a strain on her relationship with Dick Grayson, now the hero known as Nightwing. During this time, Koriand'r's sister Komand'r also seized control of Tamaran, with Koriand'r's parents acting as her advisors.

Koriand'r returned to Earth, and began to mend her relationship with Dick Grayson. Later on another trip to Tamaran, Karras was killed while trying to stop a group of terrorists.

The Titans Hunt

Shortly after this, current and former members of the Titans were hunted and captured by the Wildebeest Society. Deathstroke, Nightwing, Troia, Pantha, Phantasm, Arella and Red Star joined forces to track them down. Upon locating the captured Titans, the heroes were shocked to learn the identity of the leader of the Wildebeests was their own teammate, Jericho, who was now corrupted by the tainted souls of Azarath.

During the final showdown with the Wildebeest Society, Jericho and Raven were seemingly slain; Raven's mother Arella and Danny Chase died and merged with the purged souls of Azarath to become Phantasm.

Soon after, an evil version of Raven emerged; Her evil consciousness survived, and she found a mortal vessel to house her form. Raven was intent on planting the seeds of Trigon's unborn children into new vessels.

A Wedding Disaster

Afterwards, the Titans entered into tumultuous times; Members came and went, longtime friends were maimed or destroyed, as Dick tried to hold the team together. But his relationship with Starfire became strained, and problems in Gotham demanded Dick's attention. Impulsively, Dick proposed marriage to Starfire. The two almost wed, but the ceremony was interrupted by the dark incarnation of their former teammate, Raven. Her brutal attack on Starfire triggered changes in Dick and Kory's relationship. Starfire was implanted with a Raven "seed" which caused her to leave Earth and go on a spiritual journey and later, back to Tamaran. Unknown to Starfire, she was actually implanted with the ‘seed' of the good Raven, who influenced Starfire to leave earth – away from the clutches of evil Raven.

A New Life

When Starfire returned to Tamaran, she met and fell in love with a man named Ph'yzzon, a brave general. After a quick courtship, the Koriand'r and Ph'yzzon got married.

Meanwhile, Cyborg had merged his consciousness with the alien race known as Technis in an effort to save the dying race. Vic - now known as Cyberion - was reunited with his former teammates as an evil version of Raven tried to destroy her good self (which lay dormant in the body of Starfire). To ferret out Starfire, evil Raven incited a conflict in the Vegan star system. As a result, Tamaran was destroyed along with the Technis.

The Titans were able to destroy evil Raven utterly, and restore good Raven into a new spiritual golden body. Starfire decided to rebuild her culture on a new planet; many Tamaraneans were off-world during the explosion – enough to settle on a new planet dubbed New Tamaran.

Bye, bye, Tamaran! The unlucky planet gets destroyed in NEW TITANS #128 [1995]

When the Sun Eater ravaged the galaxy, the planet of New Tamaran lay in its path. An alien woman tried to warn the Tamaraneans, but Queen Komand'r was too short sighted and xenophobic to listen. Starfire believed the woman and tried to warn her fellow Tamaraneans. Komand'r labeled her sister Koriand'r a traitor and banished her. Starfire left the planet and was unable to prevent its destruction. New Tamaran was destroyed by the Sun Eater – along with many of the remaining Tamaraneans and Koriand'r's new husband, Ph'yzzon.

Reunited

Starfire aided the Titans again during the Technis Imperative conflict, which involved the Justice League as well as all Titans, past and present. The two teams eventually worked together to save the earth and former Titans teammate, Cyborg. After this adventure, the group decided to reform, and Starfire became a full time member of the Titans once again.

JLA/TITANS #3 [1998]

Starfire often found herself at odds with her fellow teammates. As in the past, her warrior ways conflicted with the group's ideologies. She was also very tentative around Dick Grayson, as they never had closure to their relationship.

Starfire received an urgent summons from her brother Ryand'r. Starfire and her fellow Titans became embroiled in a struggle between the remaining Tamaraneans and their hated enemies, the Gordanians, for possession of the planet, Karna. Tempest - using his ambassador skills - offered a solution: the Tamaraneans and Gordanians could share the planet of Karna. The Gordanians would allow them to stay; in exchange, the Tamaraneans would teach them new trades outside of slavery, and bolster their reputation in the galaxy. Both races agreed to these terms.

Koriand'r elected to remain on Karna and rebuild the culture of her people as Princess. She was able to bid a tearful farewell to Dick Grayson via a communiqué relay – telling him she would always love him.

Our Worlds At War

Shortly afterward, tragedy struck. During the "Our Worlds At War" crisis, a series of Imperiex probes destroyed Karna. This marks the third Tamaranean home planet that was destroyed. At that time, Starfire returned to earth.

Teen Titans

Starfire learns her future looks bright in
TEEN TITANS (third series) #19 [2004].

Soon after, a conglomerate known as Optitron offered to sponsor the Titans and Young Justice after summoning them to San Francisco. Before any decisions could be made, a mysterious cybernetic girl known as Indigo emerged from the future. Unwittingly, she somehow activated a rogue Superman android, seemingly resulting in the deaths of Troia and Omen. At Troia's funeral, Nightwing disbanded the Titans.

Members of Young Justice, especially Wonder Girl, felt responsible for the tragic deaths. This led Wonder Girl, Robin, Impulse and Superboy to form a new group of Teen Titans under the guidance of the more experienced Cyborg, Starfire and Beast Boy.

Starfire later left the Titans and joined the Outsiders at the request of Jade.

Koriand'r's Tamaranean heritage allows her to absorb solar energy and convert it to the power of flight. The Psion experiment gave her the destructive Starbolt force. Starfire is also incredibly strong, as powerful as a dozen Earth men. She is a skilled warrior whose powers and emotional intensity make her a fearful foe.
