Basic RPG Rules
These rules should be followed in all RPG clubs, not only Pern RPG's.
- No Autoing.
No one except the owner can move a character, however small the move. You also cannot make another character answer, however small the conversation may seem. You will take absolutely no control over another's character. NPC's are free for anyone to use, unless their creator has specifically stated otherwise.
If another member has given you permission to Role Play his or her characters, please alert the OOC Board first.
- No Power playing.
Your character can not be indestructible, have supreme powers, or be all around perfect. All players must have a fair shot when replying to posts and interacting within a storyline.
- No Spamming.
Advertising of Get Rich Quick schemes, Nude Photos of celebrities, and cheap airfares are not allowed. Anyone caught advertising anything unrelated to the board will be promptly removed. This also extends to culling members for other Boards, or sending email directly to participants of the Board.
- No Advertising.
If you really want to tell others about your RPG, then go join one of the advertisement groups out there, please.
- No Harassing or Abusing Founders/Members.
If there is a problem concerning the Board, please speak to the BoD. BoD members will ban participants of the fight without notice. If you have a problem with anything another member may have said or done please take it up with them via email.
- All Major Plot Advancements are to be discussed with the BoD.
BoD members need to know what's going on to run a successful Group. BoD members reserve the right to reject any plot ideas, or to change them in any way they deem fit.
Rules on Personas:
- A character of about 15 turns can be of apprentice level in any craft
- a character of about 17 turns can be a senior apprentice in any craft
- a character of about 19 turns can be of Journeyman level in any craft
- a character of about 25 can be a Sr. Journeyman in any craft.
- A MASTER crafter will be at least 30 turns of age, and TOO OLD to Impress a dragon.
- Have common sense when making personas. Please name your character as close to Pernese as you can -- making sure all male Candidate names can be easily shortened to the honorific. (Such as Jared becomes J'red). Personalities: remember if you want to be a candidate or rider you must be of a stable mental environment -- no abused characters, mental cases or severe anti-social behavior. Most riders are outgoing and sociable, and have strong mental personalities -- especially queen riders! Backgrounds: no abandoned at birth, parents unknown, etc. Families are usually large -- you don't need to list of even roleplay any or all of them though.
- No really long, hard to pronounce dragon, flit or rider names. Remember all dragon names must end in 'th' and no flit or rider names can end in 'th'.
- Remember that life on Pern's not all fun, Flights, sun, Gathers and being lazy! There are chores to do, obligations and duties to Weyr, Hold, Hall and one's dragon to be preformed, old skills to practice, new skills to be honed and always there's Thread to be fought!
- Your char can't own a feline as a pet. Canines, yes. Flits, yes. But no felines.
Rules on Anne McAffrey's World of Pern.
- Dragons only come in five colors: gold, bronze, brown, blue and green. Sport colors are not accepted.
- Gold dragons are the dominant females. They are queen dragons and lay clutches of eggs. They do not chew firestone.
- Bronze dragons are the dominant males. They are usually Weyrleaders and
Wingleaders. Bronzes will usually catch a queen.
- Browns are the middle class male dragons. They are generally Wingseconds and Thirds, but are known to be Wingleaders as well. They will sometimes catch a queen if they are stronger than the other bronzes.
- Green dragons are the lower class female dragons. They make up the bulk of the Wings. Greens do not lay eggs because they have chewed firestone. Greens have mating flights more often than golds.
- Blue are the lower class male dragons. Along with greens they make up the bulk of the wings.
Gold and green dragons are always female.
Bronze, brown and blue dragons are always male. If you're having trouble remembering, think of it this way:
Gold and green = G = Girl
Bronze, brown and blue = B = Boy
Dragons must reside within their established size range. There will be no extra large, or extra small dragons. (Read the size guide in the files section) Also, absolutely NO ONE is allowed to have a character who's able to hear/speak to all dragons or flits!
- Anne's original characters are strictly off limits. No one can be related to, interact with, or be any of her characters. This extends to all Weyrs and Holds; they may be mentioned, but not visited.
- There is no magic in the world of Pern. There are no such things as Mages or Witches. Dragons are the only beings that can speak telepathically, while Firelizards send images and feelings. There are also no beings from other realms, planets, or dimensions.
- Firelizards do not talk. They are not to have conversations with their owners. The send feelings and images only.
- If you're going to play in a Pern RPG, make sure you've read at least three of Anne's Dragonriders books and have a good understanding of them.
- No Candidates who are mental basket cases who've been horribly abused, either physically, mentally or sexually. Most people who create these types of personas have no concept of how incredibly damaging his abuse is. Don't think a dragon will cure it. They won't. Dragons aren't mind and sprit healers and no Seachdragon would ever find these types of people acceptable to Stand. A dragon will NEVER Impress a traumatized Candidate. It just doesn't happen.
Rules on Posting
- Do not press submit more than once. If the message does not appear on the Board, wait at least five minutes before considering posting again. Messages frequently get lost and don't show up for some time. Members who post multiple copies of a message will be sent an e-mail reminding them of this rule.
- DELETE THE OLD POST! Many people receive posts in a Daily Digest and scrolling through the old posts is incredibly annoying. Please remove the old post before you press send.
- Consider which e-mail address from which you will be posting. Hotmail addresses frequently send nothing except the message tag to the group. Messages should be posted from the Group if possible.
- If your e-mail tag is more than a paragraph or about five lines, post in the group or delete it from your message.
- Attachments sent to this group will be stripped from the message automatically. This is purely for the safety of our members, not that we don't want to see your things. If you have anything you want to show off, please put it in the files section.
- All posts will be written in Third Person. Please mention your character's name at least once during the post.
First Person: I said... I did...
Third Person: He said, she said... He did, she did...
- When approaching someone please either state their character's name in the post, or leave it in the Tag at the bottom.
- Please use different quotation marks when your dragon/flit or human speaks. We use the following:
- Dragons will speak between <<these.>>
- Riders reply mentally between <these>
- Firelizards send feelings and images between ~these.~
- Humans always use regular quotation marks for verbal speech. "These."
Rules Regarding Firelizards
- Firelizard names must NOT end in 'TH'. Please make sure your flits' names are not similar to your dragon's or your character's name.
- Flits come in the same colors as dragons: gold, bronze, brown, green, and blue.
- You may have no more than five lizards. If you want more than five, please discuss it with management first. You have to have a good reason for having the lizards you have. Please think about a reason WHY your character would have a flitter.
There is a limit to how many Firelizards are in the Weyr:
Gold = 5
Bronze = 10
- Firelizards are a big responsibility. Your character can't just have them 'show up' when they want. Please think about having a flitter before you give your character a whole fair of them.
- If you make up a character, they must not have a metallic Flit if they have a metallic dragon. This includes Candidates that want to Impress a metallic dragon later on. You also may not have more than one queen or bronze. You may have as many of the other colors as you want though.
Remember,
please THINK about having a flitter before you give your character four of the beasts. After a time you'll probably just want them to disappear and forget about them. A Weyrling with a new dragonet will have enough on his or hands without having three or four demanding firelizards.
ALSO: Some characters were created before these rules were in place, and they may be exceptions to the rules. So don't get upset because "You let them but you won't let me!"
