Bishen |
I wonder where I should start? Kaylalily asked herself as she surveyed the area around her. She was in the creature refuge, in the Bishen Realm. All of her friends had those beautiful creatures called Bishens. She had traveled all the way here to see if it would be possible to get one herself. When she had arrived and gone to ask for information on how to adopt a bishen she had met Indyana. All that Indyana had told her was that there were no domestic clutches at the moment. She told Kaylalily that if she really wanted one there are some wild clutches hidden around the refuge. Kaylalily had immediatly asked where they were, but Indyana had responded by asking where she was planning to have the Bishen live if she got one. There was a large pond surrounded by extreamly tall trees in Kaylalily's sanctuary that she planned to have become the Bishen's home. After hearing that, Indyana had pulled two peices of paper off of the desk and handed them to to Starfire. The first was a map of the refuge. The second was a riddle. It read: In order to find the clutch I hope your not a klutz Underwater you shall look Though not in a hole or nook Seek within the cave colored blue Remember 2312 Beware the giant fish Or you'll be served on a dish Good luck traveler And riddle unraveler Even as Kaylalily read it again, some of it started to make sense, but not very much at all. Then it hit her. Weren't there caves on the Obsidian Sea? Kaylalily thought this over for a second then realized that it had to be one of the answers. She sighed and ran a hand through her auburn hair in fustration. There had to be tons of caves on the sea. She pulled out the map that Indyana had given her and looked it over. She doubted that it would have the caves listed, and was even less sure that it would have a blue cave listed. As she scanned the listed caves, her heart lifted mightily at the sight of a cave called The Topaz(blue) Cave. She studied it more closely and found that the entrance was underwater, but the cave itself was actually above ground. Kaylalily's green eyes scanned the map for the quickest route there. Once she had it fixed in her mind she started off at a jog and worked her way to the sea. Kaylalily arrived after thirty minutes of walking. She looked around. The cave was a large stone hill to her left. Where to start Kaylalily asked herself. She walkted toward the water and dove in. The water was like ice, and Kaylalily surfaced gasping for breath. The dive back under was less harsh as she was starting to get used to the temperature. Kaylalily looked around. She spotted the cave entrance about ten feet in front of her and a little to her left. She swam quickly toward it. When she was two feet away, she turned to look around her once more and spied a large grey shape swimming straight toward her, it's mout was open showing many long white teeth. Kaylalily turned and swam through the opening as fast as her legs would allow. She pulled herself up onto the ledge in front of the yawning hole that was the cave's entrance. Below in the water she saw the sleek gray form close it's mouth and continue by. Kaylalily gulped down breaths of air as she recovered from the fright and remembered the riddle. It had said to beware the giant fish. Kaylalily turned to the cave opening to fing that it was lighted by torches hanging in brackets along the cave. She walked into the cave nervously and spotted a cave comin off to the right. Above it there was a plaque that a large number one was printed upon. Once again she remembered the riddle. She would look for cave two, then three, then one and last, two. Kaylalily continued through the caves, her footsteps very audible in the silence. She located cave one and walked through to stop and stare in amazement. Along the walls there were statues of what she recognized as Bishen dragons. They were all made out of a shiny blue stone. She turned to examin them. The first was a snake-like dragon, without any wings or legs. Under it there was a plaque with writing on it. Kaylalily bent down to read it. It informed her that the snake-like creature was a wyrm. The wyrm is what comes out of the egg when it hatches. It also informed her that the dragons are called Bishels until they recieve their breath weapon from the Kailan, or oldest member of the clan. Next to the plaque there was an egg made of blue stone. The plaque beneath is stated that a green egg hatches male and a blue egg hatches female. Kaylalily smiled, now she knew what color egg she would take, if she had a choice. She moved on to the next statue which was of a dragon that had four legs but no wings. It was a terran shrape. Once a dragon grows into a shrape it has reached it's adult form, type, and size. The next was of a dragon somewhat like a wyrm. It had no legs or wings. This was a marine shrape. The next had wings but no legs. It must be an arboreal, most of her friends had this type, but personally, she felt that the marine was much more graceful than either of the other types, but an arboreal would be just as good. The terran was wonderful too, her traitor mind put in. Oh how was she going to decide? Then she remembered, you can't tell what color or type it is going to be from what the egg looks like. You can only tell the gender. She moved on down the row of statues. This one had wings and legs. She studied the plaque for a moment and found that this was a hybrid. A hybrid can occur when two different types of Bishen mate. Next she came upon an terran Bishen holding a stone. It was a statue of a dragon after the shantel, when a Bishel becomes a full Bishen. Kaylalily sighed, hating to leave this beautiful place. She continued through the caves loking wistfully behind her. She found the next cave quickly and entered. She gasped when she saw it. The cave was made of the same blue stone as the statues. To the left she saw an opening in the bottom of the cave which led into the sea. In the center of the room there was a nest. as she aproached it she found a wooded sign. She bent down to read it. This is a Bishen nest. Since you have proven your bravery, determination, and your ability to solve riddles you may take one of the eggs. You may also use the back exit into the forest of the Bishen Realm. Kaylalily looked up at the back of the cave and spied a door. She dicided she would rather use that than go back the way she haad come. Even if it meant that she wouldn't get to see those statues. She headed for the nest. It contained four eggs. She wondered which one that she would choose. She reached down and carefully picked up a green egg that she knew would hatch into a male. . . . . . . Kaylalily cradled it carefully against her chest and for a moment just stood and admired the beauty of the egg. A noise was emerging from the way that she had entered. She stood still no more. She rushed for the exit, trying to avoid jostilng the egg. This passage only had a occasional torch, so Kaylalily was forced to slow her pace. There! A light! Kayalily sighed with relief at the sight. She rushed out into the bright afternoon. The trees rising aroud her gave her a sence of safety that the cave would never have. She rushed back to the cabin so that she could register herself as the proud bond-mate of a bishen dragon egg. "Well, I see that you were successfull in your hunt" Indyana said as soon as she saw Kaylalily walked in the door. "Yeah, but it wasn't easy" Kaylalily replied. The exitement of the day had tired her more than she had thought. "I don't doubt it. Now I'm guessing that you would like to register yourself as the owner of an egg?" She asked, pulling out a thick, hard cover book.Kaylalily nodded. "Okay then. the only things that we can register at the moment is it's gender, it's age, and your name," Indyana informed Kaylalily. Kaylalily quickly gave her the information. "I'm going home, now that you have the info," Kaylalily tells Indyana, and turns to leave. "Make sure that you come back when your egg hatches so that you can register it's color, and it's age again," Indyana warns Kaylalily as she puts the book away. "I will" She replies and rushes out the door. She wanted to get home as quickly as possible. Once home, Kaylalily headed for the large pond in the forest of the sanctuary. All of Kaylalily's creatures lived in the sanctuary, and Kaylalily had prepared a perfect place for her bishen. She reached it quickly since she knew all of the shortcuts. The pond was a large one. At least as big as a football field, probably a little bigger. The water was calm except for the occasional ripple created by the fish that inhabited the pond. Surrounding the pond were giant trees, some of which grew right out of the water. On the bank that Kaylalily was standing on there was a small building. Kaylalily entered. Inside there were two beds, a small and a large, a table, a couple of lamps, a closet and what looked like an incubator. She hurried over to the incubater and gently deposited her beautiful egg inside it. Kaylalily had decided to spend the week here so she wouldn't miss it's hatching. She settled down to rest, and wait until the egg would hatch, which would be around a week. She would wait. This was worth it. |
