A Panther light cruiser is like a shorter, skinnier heavy cruiser. This model is a heavily modifed heavy cruiser miniature.
First I cut each "pontoon" straightwise down the middle. The material removed by the cut made the model skinnier. I then filed & reattached the two sides of the pontoons to the middle structure, filling the gaps with putty. This was quite difficult to keep straight in 3D!
To make the ship shorter I took the easiest method and filed off the front of each pontoon a couple of mm, which then had to have the shape restored by more filing.
Finally I modifed the heavy cruiser engines by cutting the middle out & reattaching, making them shorter. I wasn't that happy with the final result.
I'm disappointed that this didn't look distinct from the heavy cruiser at a glance. In retrospect, I should've taken another mm or so when I narrowed the pontoons. Would've made a big difference at this scale. |
