Colonel
Jonathan (Jack) O'Neill: Commander of SG-1, pulled out of retirement to
lead the first Stargate mission Colonel Jonathan "Jack" O'Neill is the commanding
officer of SG-1, the primary unit assigned to the Stargate Command facility.
An officer in the United States Air Force, O'Neill was pulled out of retirement
and assigned to lead the first Stargate mission, to Abydos. He was selected
because of his state of depression and self-hatred following the accidental
death of his young son, Charlie. His original mission was to look for signs
of hostile life on Abydos and blow up the Stargate if he found any. Instead,
O'Neill helped to defeat Ra, the powerful Goa'uld System Lord who had enslaved
the native people. He returned to Earth to retire again, only to be reactivated
and sent back to Abydos. The SGC program was formed, and O'Neill became one
of its leaders and strongest supporters. Since then, Jack O'Neill has separated
from his wife. His work is now his life, but he enjoys it. His wit, sarcasm
and sense of humor help him make sense of it all, and his courage and tenacity
help him make it through the next mission. He knows that at the end of the
day, he could not be doing anything that is more important.
Daniel Jackson: SG-1's historical and archaeological expert is Dr. Daniel Jackson, the man who first discovered how to activate the Stargate. Jackson accompanied Colonel O'Neill on the first Stargate mission to Abydos, where they defeated the Goa'uld System Lord Ra and helped to free the Abydonian people from slavery. Jackson fell in love with Sha're, daughter of the ruler of the tribal Abydonians, and remained on the planet. When his wife was kidnapped by the Goa'uld System Lord Apophis, Jackson joined SG-1 (as a civilian) in hopes of finding her and freeing her from the control of Amonet, Apophis' Goa'uld queen with whom Sha're had been joined. Sometimes awkward, sometimes socially inept, Jackson is driven, intelligent and an invaluable member of the Stargate program.
Major Samantha (Sam) Carter: SG-1 team member, astrophysicist, and responsible for deciphering the Stargate addressing system Samantha Carter is SG-1's science expert. Brave and extremely intelligent, Carter determined (along with Dr. Daniel Jackson) that the Stargate system included thousands of worlds, rather than just linking Earth and Abydos. She is military personnel (Air Force), and the SGC's leading mind on the Stargate and wormhole theory. Carter is kind and loyal, especially to those she cares about. She is the only woman on SG-1, and probably the highest-ranking female officer in the SGC. She is very dedicated to the Stargate program, working to bring about its existence even before Daniel Jackson made the gate work.
Teal'c: Formerly first prime to the System Lord Apophis, Teal'c is a Jaffa - a human from the planet Chulak, used by the Goa'uld as incubators for larval Goa'uld parasites. Teal'c is not joined with his Goa'uld, but carries one in larval form within his belly. Teal'c joined Apophis' army and rose through the ranks to become Apophis' most trusted servant, but his heart was always with his family and his people. He came to see the Goa'uld as false gods who had enslaved the people of Chulak, and moved against them. When presented with an opportunity by SG-1 to turn against Apophis, Teal'c turned his weapon on his former master and joined Jack O'Neill in fighting for the freedom of those oppressed by the System Lords. Teal'c now serves in non-enlisted special ops as a member of SG-1. He is the SGC's primary source of information when it comes to the Goa'uld, and continually proves to be invaluable. He is loyal to his friends, and especially to SG-1. Teal'c shows again and again that he is willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish his goals. Because of his betrayal and continued assistance of the Tau'ri (humans from Earth), Teal'c is a wanted fugitive among the Goa'uld and an outcast on Chulak.
General George Hammond: Commanding officer of the SGC, he coordinates all Stargate missions General George Hammond is the commanding officer of the Stargate Command facility, located at the Cheyenne Mountain Complex in Colorado. Hammond is responsible for coordinating all Stargate missions for the SGC's teams (SG-1 through SG-12). This includes the acquisition of new technologies, diplomatic relations with alien peoples, defense against attack from the Goa'uld and other enemies, and more. Hammond is a career military man. Though wise and kind, he is also strict and firm in his decisions. And though a man of regulations, Hammond knows when it is appropriate to bend the rules. He is accountable directly to the president of the United States.
Dr. Janet Fraiser: Leaving her husband to persue a medical career in the United States Air Force, Dr. Fraiser found herself assigned to the top secret Stargate Command after the head doctor at the SGC was killed while on duty. From the beginning Dr. Fraiser knew that working at Stargate Command would demand her total effort, but, after all, that's why they called her in. From finding virus cures to performing surgeory, Dr. Fraiser is challenged on a daily basis. Not only does Dr. Fraiser find herself in positions where she must save a life but she is also put in command of finding cures to plagues that could kill herself as well as Stargate Command, and possibly the human race. Her job is far from easy but that's why she loves it so much and Stargate Command could not continue on without the expertise of Dr. Fraiser.
