LAST TIME ON SG-13
"Ok, ok! I'll tell him when we get back! Happy?"
Mish exclaimed.
"Yup!" Bryn declared with a smile. "Now to find me
a pet!"
The three humans and two aliens trudged onwards
bravely moving forwards, never looking back to see
where they had come, looking forwards, to the
future, to a better life, to a better future, never
looking backwards to the past.
Of course, in hindsight, looking backwards might
have been a handy thing to do, because no-one brought
an A-Z of this particular planet, although Becca did,
mysteriously, have a map of Yugoslavia in her pocket.
She had no idea how it got there, though.
"There it goes." Mish said.
"What?" Kat asked.
"The technowhatsit."
Bryn sighed, "We're supposed to be finding me a pet!"
"But..." Mish said, "Mish is sure she saw a
flashywidgetfilled thingy over there. Just down there,
you see, on that cliff-face. I'll just go check."
"Okay, fine, we'll meet you over there!" Becca pointed
to a small circle of trees which looked suspiciously
like Pine trees, considering they were on an alien
planet.
"Aren't we supposed to do stuff in pairs or whatever,
so no-one gets lost?" Kat asked.
"Oh, yeah." Cara dismissed absently, "Sure, you go
with her."
Kat looked slightly shocked, "Why me?"
"Because I'm the leader, and I said so."
Bryn and Becca smiled and nodded at Kat, then left for
the circle of trees with Cara.
Mish wandered off, so Kat, with a look skyward,
followed, to the cliff-edge.
"See, it's down there!" Mish pointed to an undisputedly
shiny object stuck half-way down the cliff.
Kat took one look at the drop and gulped. "Well . . .
We can just leave it there."
"Ya think?"
"Not really." Kat sighed folded her arms, tapping a
foot. "How're we going to retrieve it?"
Mish grinned and pulled out a fishing rod from her
backpack.
"What?!"
The other alien proceeded to attach a small bag on
hook of the fishing rod. Kat couldn't help noticing
that the fishing rod's handle had 'Property of J. O'Neill'
engraved on it, presumably from a compass.
Mish smiled at Kat and then sat down and dangled the
rod off the side of the cliff.
"Is this going to take long?" Kat asked, pulling out a
book from her pocket.
Mish shrugged, "Shouldn't think so."
Silence.
"Ah." She pulled the rod back up and an old boot with
a hole in the toe was attached to the end of it. Mish
blinked at it, "You know, this is beyond a joke."
She got up and peered over the edge. The shiny thing
was gone. A quizzical expression grew on her face.
"What?" Kat looked up from her book. "What is it?"
"Mish can't see the doohickey anymore." She looked sad.
Kat peered over the cliff again, "Ah well." She said,
"It'll probably turn up later if it's important."
The two aliens walked back to the circle of trees ...
"Woah, that's cool." Kat announced.
"Super green! Froody." Mish agreed.
