Counterstrike: the Half-Life Connection
Foreword
Half-Life and Counterstrike have become very famous all around the world. Counterstrike is a modification of Half-Life designed mainly for multiplayer purposes. So there is actually no connection known of the story between Half-Life and Counterstrike….now the secret has been uncovered. Counterstrike has a DIRECT connection with Half-Life. As you will see in the following:
INTRODUCTION: THE ORIGINS OF COUNTERSTRIKE
The world’s most advanced research facility – Black Mesa had a catastrophic accident not so long ago. Dr. Gordon Freeman, an astrophysicist working under Anomalous Materials Department, survived a catastrophic accident that has set loose alien creatures into the facility. In the interest of national security (actually global security) Troops from the United States Marine Corp. were sent to exterminate every living creature in that facility – including Black Mesa employees. They have failed utterly. Almost all of the Marines have died on their mission, and some of the scientists and aliens escaped from the facility. Dr. Freeman’s effort to destroy the aliens by going to Xen only killed half of all the creatures. Those aliens have terrorized the public, creating havoc and devastation.
Somehow, the aliens have reached other countries, including Canada, Mexico, and some have been found in Europe. As a solution, the United Nations have proposed an assembly of a special task force to deal with the problem, later called Counterstrike Force, aka CSF. Originally, CSF is a medium sized agency, composed of mainly scientists and soldiers. CSF is an international agency, effectively searching and eliminating surviving aliens.
2 years after their establishment, the Counterstrike Force has eliminated every surviving alien on Earth. Since there are no more threats of those creatures, the CSF was broken into 2 parts, the first part is mainly a research group on extraterrestrial (later named Anomalous Studies Agency, ASA). The second part continued to exist mainly because President Bush’s pledge to eliminate worldwide terrorism and huge support from the world’s leaders. Now with operatives from police forces and soldiers from around the globe, such as GSG-9, SAS and US Navy SEALS.
This is the story of the word’s best anti-terrorist group: The Counterstrike Force
ASSAULT: PART 1
THE WASHINGTON POST, 23 FEBUARY 2004 (HEADLINE)
ISLAMABAD, Tuesday – Undisclosed sources has revealed that the world’s most wanted man, Osama bin Laden has been captured by NATO troops last night. There seemed to be some unconcluded debates about trailing the Saudi born dissident under military tribunal. Currently bin Laden has been detained in an undisclosed country, though there are strong speculations that he is in the USA. Since his capture there have been some threats made by senior al-Qaeda and former Taliban officials to the United States and its allies of further terrorist attacks demanding the release of Osama.
Prelude to Terror
Major Gregory Howard awoke in the cabin of the C-130 Hercules. He was surprised by the fact that he fell asleep in a flight to a counter terrorist mission. The primary assault team of the CSF, American Theatre. Their Division mainly handles terrorist assaults in Canada, USA, Mexico and Latin America. There is a similar European Counterpart commanded by his longtime friend, Stanley Jackson.
There are 13 people in his team, (check list) all fully trained in CSF headquarters Training Facility. They brought along all their own equipment and already dressed in their BDUs – Battle Dress Uniform. After 7 months of training, they have their first assignment. They were briefed mid-flight on this assignment just after takeoff. Apparently terrorist supporters of Osama bin Laden have taken hostages in a Denver Warehouse. It is reported that one of the hostages is Clyde Richmond, daughter of US President Richmond.
Hasn’t the world suffered enough? Howard thought. After the Black Mesa disaster those aliens have mysteriously reappeared all over the world. He has lost men under his command while CSF was eliminating those aliens. He has seen the worst of combat. He was among the Marines deployed at the Black Mesa facility during the accident He was lucky to suffer an injury early at the deployment, as the rest of the marines perished, he survived to go home in time to catch the delivery of his firstborn child.
The plane landed, a bus waited for the troops to unload the gear and bring them into the bus. It was a normal bus because they wanted to keep a low profile. They were at the warehouse shortly after. People gathered behind the police line. A lot of reporters were there, all cameras pointing at the scene, hoping to get a shot of something interesting. The bus stopped right at the entrance of a command center – a converted barber shop. A man in a blue FBI windbreaker greeted Howard.
"I’m Special Agent Bill Donnel, Special Agent in-charge" they shook hands
"Greg Howard, CSF team leader. What’s the situation?"
"I don’t know much yet, as you can see, we all just got here too," other agents around the room were still setting up the equipment. "The President’s kid is in there, but the press doesn’t know it yet. They called and made their demands 15 minutes ago. It seems they want Osama freed and an airplane,"
"You got any blueprints, circuitry plans?" Howard asked.
The SAC turned to one of his agents, "Simpson, got the plans?"
"Over there at the table," the man said.
"Lee and Borodin, go there and start planning for recon" Howard gave the first order of the day.
"Roger"
"What else do you need?" SAC Donnel asked.
"Okay, we need someplace for the boys to put our gear and suit up while you and I talk some more about the situation"
SCENE COMMANDERING
"This is Dr. Gerard Schaffer. He’s going to be handling the negotiations" Donnel introduced him to Howard.
"How are things going?" Howard asked him.
"We obviously can’t meet their demands. They are pretty much angry and confused. These people are not experienced enough to handle this situation and they are agitated, which is both good and bad. Good because there’s a slight chance we can reason with them and bad ‘cause they’re trigger happy," the FBI negotiator said.
"I’d lean more toward your side of the operation, Major," the SAC said to Howard.
"Guns are louder than words, aren’t they? Let’s see what our techies have for us first," Howard said.
The techies, or technicians are the most important part in planning an operation. In contrary to normal CS gameplay, it is essential in an assault operation to get as much information about what’s inside the building as possible, lest Howard would have their team outnumbered and hostages killed.
SITUATION REVIEW
The technicians would sneak around the building, planting cameras and fibre optic devices to look into the warehouse. There are 3 entry points into the warehouse. The first one is a large shutter door for trucks to drive into the warehouse. On both sides of the parking space for those trucks are an slightly elevated floor with crates and boxes all around the place. Opposite the shutter door, there is a small door for workers to enter the building. The third entry point is the ventilation system which have to be accessed from the roof of the building.
There is a ramp on the side of the warehouse to go up to the second story walkway. There are narrow walkways on both sides of the building. The two walkways are connected to a security room above the large shutter door. The outer room has two terrorist guarding the area. While two more are inside the security room. Two more are at the right walkway.
Downstairs, one terrorist is on the left side and another on the right. Therefore there are 8 al-Qaeda fighters controlling the warehouse with 5 hostages in the security room.
Major Howard and his team have formulated a assault plan. They have been given the green light to the incursion. For the assault, two sub teams have been formed, Team-A, or Alpha Team is headed by Captain Carlos Ramirez. The members, with callsigns Alpha 2 to 4 are Darren Wong, Rajendran Kumar, and Brian Kirkpatrick.
Team-B or Bravo Team is headed by Captain Sergei Narmonov, with assault members Tracy Smith, Louis Vincenzo and Michael Ledger. Rifle-1 Jessie Bradley is perched on an opposite overpass and Rifle-2 is on an apartment building adjacent to the warehouse, though they won’t be doing much because there are no windows of which they can see their targets. Major Howard will be monitoring the progress in the Command Center.
The troops are dressed up in their black BDUs, with Kevlar and equipment vests. Alpha team will be carrying suppressed MP-5 submachine guns with a Sig-Sauer 9mm automatic as a sidearm. However Team-B will be using unsilenced M-14 Carbine, the shortened version of the M-16. These two different weapons are crucial to their success.
It was time to go, "okay boys, move out now. Go! Go!GO1" Howard commanded.
As ready as ever, Teams A and B headed to their preplanned positions. Team A went beside the warehouse and climbed up the ladder to the roof. The climbed into the ventilation shaft from the roof and very quietly crawled through it. They made a left turn and crawled some more. Ramirez was the leading the team until he stopped at the opening, which he saw the outer security room. As expected, two terrorist were there. All of them armed with M-14 Carbines. They must have gotten the weapons in-country, which was better than bringing their own AK-47’s through customs. Lower than a whisper, Ramirez made a radio transmission, "Alpha Team are in position"
At the same time, Bravo team moved behind the warehouse. Of course, the small door was locked. Demolitions expert Michael Ledger put a small block of C4 plastic explosives and prepared the wiring. The rest of the team are ready.
Team-B’s leader, Narmonov, called out, "C-Square, this is Bravo-Lead, my team are in position,"
"Roger that, C S square copies both transmissions," Howard said into the radio to both teams. "Weapons free, you are good to go,"
"Roger, out." It’s time. Ramirez slowly opened the lid from the bottom of the ventilation shaft and aimed his suppressed MP-5 at the head of the terrorist. He squeezed once, then quickly turned to the other one and squeezed again. Both men fell on the floor at the same time. He waited for a few seconds. No one seemed to notice the death of the two terrorist. Ramirez jumped through the hole quietly, followed by his team members. Later all of them were crouching in the outer security room so that the terrorists outside could not see them.
"Bravo-Lead, Alpha. We have dropped the two Tangos and waiting for your signal"
"Roger that, standby." Narmonov replied.
This is where the most crucial part of the plan begins. Ledger, the demolitions expert, detonated the explosives on the door, forcing it open with a loud bang. Then Smith threw in a single flashbang into the warehouse. When door exploded. All the terrorists in the warehouse instinctively turned to that direction. That was when the flashbang went off. The combination of intense light and sound was meant to disorient the terrorists. Bravo Team went in and sighted a terrorist around some crates. Narmonov loosed a single round from his Carbine and it struck directly on his head. He dropped like a rag doll. Smith gave a short burst at the man standing on the second story walkway.
The entire point of the role of Team-B was to create a distraction for the terrorist, which is why they didn’t silence their guns. While they were distracted, Team-A charged into the security room and immediately dropped the other two terrorists who were inside. The hostages screamed in terror, but it’s okay because the terrorists outside are busy. They made sure that the terrorists are dead. Then, Ramirez said, "Everybody, relax. You’re safe now. Just stay here until we come back for you,"
They took the weapons away from the terrorists and closed the security doors with the hostages inside. They headed for the ramp to finish off the remaining terrorists.
Team-B has killed the remaining terrorists on the second floor. The last two terrorists didn’t have anywhere else to run, so they ran to the ramp, not knowing that there are more enemies upstairs. They ran right into Alpha-Team, which members loosed three rounds into each of their heads.
At the command center, they heard most of the gunfire from Bravo-Team. The whole thing took just about 15 seconds. Then, the radio crackled, "C Square, this is Alpha and Bravo, mission accomplished."
"Roger that, please escort the hostages the hostages to the ambulance, out"
