She is friendly and courteous but very businesslike when it comes to work and has a brisk stride as if she has someplace to go very quickly. She is calm and collected under pressure but is very sensitive to others feelings due to her Betazoid senses. She is usually seen out of uniform when she isnt on duty and her long black hair is always up in a braid on top of her head. She gives off an aura of command, and despite her lack of height, can be quite intimidating. Inwardly she is a free spirit who, despite personal pain in her life, can roll with the punches and believes in a firm sense of right and wrong, and tries to look on the bright side. She wants to believe there is good in anyone...and though she is distrustful in certain situations, is usually open and caring even to strangers.

STARFLEET PERSONEL DATAFILE:
Meg was the middle child born to two Iandrew and Lena Astri on the largest continent of Akora. Meg's family history is deeply entrenched in the planetary culture from which she stems from. Akora is a human planet and is believed to have been seeded by the "Preservers" over a thousand years before Terans ever launched into space. Their culture is very similar to the ancient Celtic culture of Earth, and they are deeply spiritual and hold tradition above all things. In this culture, the women serve and the men rule and protect the land. Boys from age of seven are trained in combat and diplomatic skills, where as girls are trained to be either housewives or priestesses.
Meg's father, Iandrew Astri, is the Vanex, or King, of the planet. It is a hereditary monarchy passed down from son to son, and her family has ruled over the planet for more than a hundred generations. On the other hand Meg's mother, Lena Talos Astri, is a former Betazoid Ambassador, which of course makes Meg half-Betazoid with full empathic abilities. Her parents met when they both became involved in the war efforts and attended meetings at the Federation Council to discuss how they could become more actively involved.
Although her father loved her very much, he was still restricted within the confines of his culture. Meg was a daughter of the First House, and as such, she was required to serve in the Sacred Temple as a High Priestess, and was trained for such duty since she was seven years old. She was not to question this duty under any circumstances, and her father often had a hard time curbing her outspokenness. Although it was against tradition, he did bend a little by allowing her to study any subjects she wished to, most of which tended to focus on either science or medicine.
Ethan Astri, Meg's older brother, was supposed to have been the heir to the throne, but with the war against the Dominion going on, he felt it his duty to go into battle to defend the Federation and its people. He was killed at the Battle of Gemault IV which left Megara next in line for the throne. She was devastated by her brothers death, and although from that time forward she was groomed to serve not only as the High Priestess but also the next Queen of Akora, her heart was not in it, and she wanted nothing more than to join Starfleet and avenge her brother. A huge fight ensued, in which Megara ended up leaving the planet when she was sixteen. She went to a nearbye starbase and took the Starfleet Entrance Exam. Her family name, (prestigious, as Akora was the Federations richest supplier of duterium) along with her skills and intelligence, made her an easy candidate.
Meg had a little difficulty adjusting to being away from her home culture. Unfortunately, she was teased endlessly about her birth right and accused several times of being given "special consideration" because she was from a royal heritage. This caused her great embarrassment and stung her pride, and she began to hide her heritage as much as possible, wanting to be judged on her own merit rather than her family name. Gradually, she began to make friends, but her studies kept her from forming anything too close. She had a strong interest in medicine and took several courses, but her sharp mind was drawn to the intelligence field. Her uncanny resourcefullness soon caught the eye of Starfleet Intelligence when she came up with a new and interesting solution to one of the tests given at the Academy. She continued with her career, pulling a double major with a Bachelors in Strategic Infiltration Studies and Communications, as well as a medical degree with an emphasis on non-terran species.
Starfleet Intelligence approached her right before graduation, and they put her in a program designed to allow her to persue her interest in medicine as well as train her in covert operations. She caught the eye of Admiral Vetak, an vulcan in charge of Section 14, the Infiltration Department of Starfleet Intelligence. With her resourcefullness and medical knowledge, she became a unique asset and Vetak became her mentor, encouraging her and training her in both medicine, covert operations, communications and infiltration. He also helped train her in Vulcan discipline and became to her like a second father, which was a great comfort after being seperated from her family.
Meg became an infiltration and communications expert as well as a doctor, and she began infiltrating the Dominions ships, posing as a doctor (which they were in desperate need of) and pulling it off beautifully. It seemed she had a magical gift for finding out impossible information and was gone before anyone could ever figure out who the spy had been. Soon, she was given the nickname "The Spider" among her colleagues and among her enemies, because like a spider under the table, if there was a private conversation happening, no doubt she would be listening. There was only one time she had been caught and was put in a Romulan prison, where she was tortured daily and she still bares the emotional and physical scars from this imprisonment. But her resourcefulness saved her once again and she was able to break out, taking with her several other Starfleet prisoners. This incident has been and is still known today as "The Great Break".
After her escape, Meg was severely traumatized emotionally and by the time she was fit for duty again, the war with the Dominion was over, and she was finished with Starfleet Intelligence. She went back to school and took some more medical courses, refreshing herself on the latest in medical science, and is now ready to assume a more peaceful, anonymous role as simply a doctor.

Official Reprimands:
Prank performed
at Starfleet Academy. All the water in the buildings ran green
for the day as a St. Patricks Day prank.
Official reprimand entered by Captain Jason Biggs of the USS Virtue
for failure to follow orders during an evacuation. Miss Astri
refused to leave behind an injured officer, placing herself and
others in peril. While the Captain is grateful for her assistance
and the situation did turn out positively, an official reprimand
for disobeying a direct order from her Captain is entered none
the less.
SKILLS/ABILITIES: Megara's greatest skill
is perhaps her resourcefulness. She can take an impossible situation
and give it new perspective and meaning. She also has a way with
words when she needs to, though she prefers to be honest with
her dealings with people. Her empathic betazoid senses combined
with her own keen observational skills make her excellent at reading
people and getting under their skin. She has the ability to look
behind disguises and masks, and as a former infiltration expert,
is good at spotting a spy in their midst, making her a valuable
asset to the rebellion. She has sometimes been called a "Jack
of All Trades" because of her medical and intelligence knowledge,
and as she has an interest in science in general, has even taken
it upon herself to learn something about electronics and engineering.
She loves knowledge, believes in being prepared for anything...and
has a terrific, almost childlike, sense of humor.
HOBBIES : During her spare time, she enjoys maintaining her small herb garden, writing holo-novels and reading. She loves archeology and earth history, especially Irish legends and culture. She also enjoys horseback riding, fencing and kickboxing.
LIKES: colorful clothes, herbology/botany, playing the violin, horses, reading, gymnastics, ju-jitsu kick-boxing, anthropology, poker, cats
DISLIKES: The color white, controlling men, being put down or given special treatment, injustice or immoral people
SPIRITUAL BELIEFS: Megara is a deeply spiritual person, who worships the god and goddess (the parents of the Universe). She is a strong believer in fate and destiny, believing that everything, no matter how terrible or trivial, happens for some greater purpose. She tries to maintain the spiritual traditions of her people. She has in the past, deviated from some traditions, and prays three times daily to the goddess for forgiveness. She was a spiritual leader on her world for a long time, and so has difficulty leaving that part behind.

Subj.: Astri, Megara Medical Report
I have completed my extensive medical evaluation of Ms. Astri to find that she is now currently in outstanding physical condition. She has sustained severe serious injuries from her imprisonment, but after the brief leave from active duty has regained full health beyond my expectations. Her mental and emotional condition should however be continually monitored, and she has chosen to keep the scars rather than have them removed. I have come to the conclusion that Ms. Astri should be allowed to continue with her duties, pending psychological evaluation and therapy.

Subj.: Astri, Megara Psychological Report
I have met with Ms. Astri three times in close proximity for this psychological evaluation. I find her to be a charming person, though she is of course suffering emotional trauma from her recent imprisonment. She is however, naturally optimistic which should speed along her recovery process, but her constant nightmares, her fear of the dark and of touching others are a cause for concern and I recommend the counselor aboard ship puts her in vigerous therapy sessions, to correct this problem. She is remarkably observant and intelligent, able to draw from the person she is with details that might otherwise remain hidden. I found that I was talking about myself more in these sessions than I have in any other, and I can only assume it is her remarkable ability to be sympathetic and put the person she is with at ease. This ability makes her an outstanding doctor and infiltrations expert. I believe she is stable mentally and ready for active duty, and every effort should be made to help her get past her emotional trauma.
