FEATURES: Ethanial, who prefers to be called by his middle name Jack, is a friendly, very kind hearted person. Very easy going, he also has quite a few personality quirks which people deem a bit odd. He’s been described as sweet, is unafraid to show his emotions, though he knows when it’s appropriate and when it isn’t. Like most members of his species, he is extremely open with his thoughts and feelings, and is also very loyal to his friends. He is very truthful, would never dream of breaking his word, and he’s always there to lend someone a helping hand when needed. He doesn’t really command an air of authority naturally, but he can most certainly take charge of a situation if it’s warranted. In a crisis, he’s calm, collected and tends to bring a unique perspective to a problem or situation. He is more a follower than a leader though, and enjoys just being helpful whenever possible. His sharp green eyes sparkle with humor and intelligence and his dark brown hair is usually messy and difficult to arrange so he keeps it short and out of his way. He always the first to smile and try to lighten the mood and the last to take offense.

STARFLEET PERSONEL DATAFILE:
Jack was found when he was six months old on a cargo freighter in the Celsius System. The USS Kanga answered the cargo freighters hail when they reported the abandoned child and the assistant CMO, Doctor Lilian Ivan, called Lily by her friends, was the first to beam aboard and take the child back to sickbay to examine him for any illness. Apparently the abandoned child had been left in a suitcase in the cargo hold, only opened slightly so he could breathe. Some of the crew had heard wailing so they’d checked the hold and found the baby. There was nothing on him or in the bag to suggest his name or identity. All they could discern was that he was Betazoid and so Starfleet put out notices on all the planets the cargo freighter had visited, but no one claimed him.
Lily who had been taking care of the child the entire time, approached her husband who was at the time Chief of Operations. They had been married for several years and had no luck conceiving, so they adopted the baby, gave him a name and took several classes on how humans could properly raise Betazoid children. They taught him the proper meditation techniques when he was a young child to prepare his mind for puberty when his mind would develop the telepathic and empathic senses, and when he finally got them, they allowed him to read their minds as much as possible, giving him all the practice he needed. The two parents had Maggie when Jack was barely ten years old and he adored his little sister from the beginning. She couldn’t pronounce Ethan (shortened for Ethanial which his parents call him) or Jack, so she started calling him E.J. and to this day she is the only one who calls him that.
But when he turned seventeen he decided to follow his own dream and his parents example and went off to Starfleet Academy to pull a major in Operations and a minor in Science. Jack made friends easily, though for some reason he never got very close to any of them, perhaps because he knew inwardly that they would be leaving on their prospective missions and didn’t want the pain of separation. As Jack feels things very deeply, he has a hard time getting close to people because losing someone he cared about would be seriously painful and traumatizing for him.
This was proved true when both his parents were killed in action during the Dominion War in 2373 when he was twenty four years old. His younger sister, who at the time was only fourteen, came to live with him aboard his ship and he raised her from that time forward until she was old enough to attend Starfleet Academy three years ago when she turned eighteen.
Jack loves to fix things, and during the war became known as “Jack of all Trades” because while Engineer’s fixed their warp cores, Jack took care of maintenance of every other function aboard ship. He is one of the handiest people to have around because like most ‘miracle workers’, he can find new and innovative solutions to most problems and his degree’s in science and his knowledge of ships systems help him in this area. During the Dominion War he was involved with several conflicts and it was because of his ability to keep a ship running and sensors going and shields up even with half the ship missing that earned him several commendations.
He misses his sister greatly and is quite protective of her, so he calls her quite frequently and keeps in close touch while she’s in Academy. His latest assignment to the F'asa Sector is a concern however, because with the distance between them, contact will be less frequent.
He does however have one of those ‘feelings’ about this assignment. Jack is incredibly supersticious and he gets ‘feelings’ about things or people and goes with it. It’s not at all uncommon for him to go up to a total stranger and go, “I like you! You’re a great person.”, just because he had a good feeling about them. All of his friends were randomly chosen, just walking up to them in the halls and saying, “You’re my new friend...”and while they may find it odd, they got over it soon after. He has yet to choose a ‘best friend’ yet....hasn’t got that feeling yet. This is just one of the odd personality quirks that Captains have had to get used to, but usually they tolerate his odd behavior because he’s such a good officer and so handy to have around.

SKILLS/ABILITIES: Jack is Mr. Fix It and known as the “Jack of all Trades” because he can fix pretty much anything from warp cores to sensors to medical equipment. He’s an outstanding organizer, a fair leader and he enjoys learning new things. He is very easy going and friendly and so he’s able to draw people out of their shells most of the time. He is also a Betazoid, meaning he has full empathic and telepathic abilities, and while he chooses not to ‘peek’ most of the time, as a life around humans has made him understand this is considered rude and an invasion of privacy, he does use these abilities to his advantage at times when necessary. He is very good with archeology and history and studies these in his spare time, and has a wide range of knowledge and expertise. His primary weakness is that he can be a bit naïve at times, far too trusting for his own good, and he’s a bit down on himself when it comes to his own self worth and esteem.

He feels things very deeply which is not uncommon for a Betazoid, however unlike most I am pleased to see that his association with humans for so long has allowed him to temper his impulses and he knows when it is appropriate and when it isn’t to express what he’s feeling. He has proved to be calm under pressure and while he has a few personality quirks that some could attribute to his personal beliefs in destiny and fate, he is however quite stable, though I do believe he suffers from repressed issues when it comes to the death of his parents. In my opinion, he is fit for active duty.
