USS Oberon
The Oberon is an Andromeda Class light cruiser commanded by Captain Jerran Terel.  The Andromeda class was designed just prior to the Intrepid class.  As such, both use similar technologies and are designed for similar mission profiles.  One of the primary differences between the two classes is that the Andromeda came out of the shipyards too early to benefit from such innovations as the bio-neural gel pack computer system or the Intrepid's variable geometry warp engine nacelles.  Andromeda class ships are slightly larger and are designed with a better tactical suite.  The Oberon herself has just recently undergone a refit which included upgraded variable geometry warp engines.  However, the isolinear based computer system is not fast enough to properly run the software for the engines, resulting in a loss of efficiency over the Intrepid class.  The engines still allow the Oberon to travel faster at warp than a standard Andromeda.  The Oberon was also adapted to include a Captain's yacht which was initially designed for the Korelev class.

USS Bellerophon
The USS Bellerophon, an Intrepid class Light Explorer, is commanded by Commander Stark Keller.  The Intrepid class was designed just prior to the Dominion War as a light explorer that could do most of the same jobs as a much heavier and much more expensive Galaxy class, while still having enough firepower to get itself out of trouble.  The Intrepid class starships were the testbeds for many newer, advanced technologies, such as variable geomoetry warp nacelles and bio-neural gel pack based computer systems.  The Bellerophon herself was involved in diplomatic talks with the Romulans during the Dominion War.

USS Ptolemy
The Nova class USS Ptolemy, commanded by Commander Cirol, is the smallest of the group of Starfleet ships assigned to the Cheron system.  Like the Andromeda class, the Nova class was designed almost concurrently with the Intrepid class.  The design itself originally came out of the Defiant class program.  It was rejected for the escort class in favor of a design who's engines were much closer to the hull.  However, the Advanced Starship Design Bureau decided that it would make an excellent replacement for some of the aging science vessels still in use in many parts of the Federation, such as the Oberth class.  Though the Ptolemy doesn't have the extensive tactical systems of either the Oberon or the Bellerophon, it does have a much more advanced sensor system and it is also faster at sublight speeds.  The Ptolemy is also fitted with an advanced Waverider type captain's yacht for planetary exploration.
