Exodus 20: 3-17   The Ten Commandments and Christian Wicca
I'm writing this to show that what I believe in as a Christian Wiccan is not in violation of the 10 Commandments.
While the Ten Commandments were written for the Hebrew people they are considered law for Christians.
The Bible verses are taken from The Third Millennium Bible Website at  http://www.tmbible.com/search.htm. The  version is the New King James.
These Commandments are for the people of Israel. God demands that He is the only God for Israel. I could not find where God had any problem with other gods unless the His people were worshipping them.  When Israel conquered a nation, the people of that nation became a part of the Israel. Their idols were destroyed with the same thought that an enemies flag would be destroyed. They were all under the rule of Israel and only the God of Israel was to be worshipped. Some of these passages maybe upsetting to some. Please, look upon this as mythology and not fact. It may help you to see the purpose behind the words.
Deuteronomy7: 2 and when the Lord your God delivers them over to you, you shall conquer them and utterly destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them nor show mercy to them. 3 Nor shall you make marriages with them. You shall not give your daughter to their son, nor take their daughter for your son. 4 For they will turn your sons away from following Me, to serve other gods; so the anger of the Lord will be aroused against you and destroy you suddenly. 5 But thus you shall deal with them: you shall destroy their altars, and break down their sacred pillars, and cut down their wooden images, and burn their carved images with fire. 6 "For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth.
Leviticus 27:34 These are the commandments which the Lord commanded Moses for the children of Israel on Mount Sinai.
(CM1) Exodus 20: 3 You shall have no other gods before Me.
Deutoromany 6:14You shall not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples who are all around you 15 (for the Lord your God is a jealous God among you), lest the anger of the Lord your God be aroused against you and destroy you from the face of the earth.
For me there is but one God. This God is represented to me as a Spirit that is nieither male nor female.
John 4:24 Jesus said, "God is Spirit and his worshippers must worship in spirit and in truth."
(CM2) Exodus 20:  4 You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
Genesis 1: 26 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them
The image of God is both male and female. God and Goddess. This includes homosexuals.
Leviticus 26:1 'You shall not make idols for yourselves; neither a carved image nor a sacred pillar shall you rear up for yourselves; nor shall you set up an engraved stone in your land, to bow down to it; for I am the Lord your God.
Idols are seen as works of men and not as living gods. Many Christian Wiccans have items that represent the Divine. In the letter of the law these items would be seen as idols, but in the spirit of the law it would not because we do not worship these items. On my altar I use the sun and the moon to represent the God and Goddess.
Deuteronomy 4 :28 And there you will serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell.
By Christians not having idols to represent God then it is through mankind that the image of God is seen. A living and breathing creation and not something that is man-made.
Colossians 1: 15Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist"
We do not worship the image, but the Spirit it represents. The Divine is the creator/ix of creation. In the same way a child is a part of and created by the parents, so We are a part of the creator through the creation. God doesn't look like us any more then we look like a bug, but through the process of creation, we are both a part of God. Yes, this includes the good and the bad.
Isaiah 45: 7 I form the light and create darkness, I make peace and create calamity; I, the Lord, do all these things.
I believe that good and evil are just a part of life. With every thought, word and deed you are choosing one or the other. It is how you choose and how you react to these events that show your faith.
Matthew 5: 44 (Jesus said)But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
I do believe in evil. Not as a fallen angel, now ruler of hell, but as a energy force that is composed of every evil action. Yes, I believe in Karma, but I also believe that it doesn't always come back to you in this life timeor three fold. In the mean time it's out there, like a slimy film and there are persons who choose to feed off of this slime. Does this slime become a life form. I don't think so. I do believe that this slim has energy and there are those who can tap into this power. For me the "sinister path" is a serious thing and so is my faith that good can overcome it.
Most Christian Wiccans do not feel that the rest of the Commandments are in conflict with Wicca.
(CM3)  Exodus 20: 7 You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
(CM4) Exodus 20: 8 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
(CM5)  Exodus 20: 12 Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
(CM6)  Exodus 20: 13 You shall not murder.
(CM7)  Exodus 20: 14 You shall not commit adultery.
(CM8) Exodus 20: 15 You shall not steal.

(CM10) Exodus 20: 17 You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's."
Matthew 22: 37 Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."
