Sabbats | |||||||||||||||||||||
These are holidays that revolve around the planting and harvesting of crops. By observing the Sabbath it helps you tune into the Earth and her changes. There are many meaning for these Sabbats depending on your tradition. The lesser Sabbats mark the quarters of the year. The color of the text is the candle color I use. Click on the title of the Sabbat to see the ritual. | |||||||||||||||||||||
Yule/Christmas - December 21 or 22. I celebrate this on the Winter Solstice. Here I celebrate the birth of Christ and the re-birth of the sunlight into the world. The days become longer now. For the pagans this is when the Goddess gives birth to the Sun/God. This is the big Sabbat for me. I have an Advent wreath and a Yule long on my altar. I celebrate this as the New Year. |

Imbolc/Candlemas - February 2nd. It is the first of the fertility festivals. The Goddess and/or Mary has recovered from childbirth and the Son/sun is growing stronger. I will do a purification house cleaning and decorate for Valentine's Day. Before the sun sets I will do my ritual and bless my altar candles for the year. At sunset I will light a candle in each room of the house in honor of the Light of the world. |

Ostara/ Spring Equinox -March 21 or 22. A balance between night and day .The beginning of the Light half of the year. The second of the fertility festivals. I celebrate the rebirth of the Earth . For my ritual I do a blessing spell asking for a safe and blessed summer for me and my family. |
Beltane - May 1. The third fertility festival. I will celebrate the union of male and female that brings new life into the world. I visit the Zoo to see all of the baby animals. My ritual will be of thanks for the new life that grows within us. Add a May Pole to your spring decorations. This is a good time for Drawing Down the Moon ritual during the full moon of this month. |
Midsummer/Summer Solstice - June 21 or 22. This is a celebration of the power of God. It's a wonderful time to do magick and commune with woodland spirits. I'll do a daytime ritual this day to celebrate the Sun and Summer. Maybe I will also take the day off and play at the lake. |
Lammas - Aug 2 or 5. The First festival of the harvest. The harvest is staring to come in. In our church we have a sermon about the first fruits. I will do a ritual of taking the best of my garden and fresh baked bread. I will burying it in the ground as a thanks offering to my God/dess for the bountiful harvest. |
Mabon/Fall Equinox - September 21 or 22. The other balance between night and day. We will be entering the dark half of the year. It is also the second harvest festival. I will be decorating for the fall and getting ready for the winter. For my ritual I will do a protection spell asking for a safe winter. This is a good time for a Thanksgiving meal. |
Samhain/ Halloween - Oct. 31st This is the last harvest festival. This is also my 1st Sabbat as a witch. This month's Esbat is also my dedication anniversary. I re-weite my Christian Witch Creed and read it to the God/dess as part of my ritual. I will celebrate the end of summer and prepare for winter. I'll carve a pumpkin and pass out candy. When the fire is just a glow, I'll gaze into it and think of those who have crossed over this year and pray for peace for those that are lost. |
