I want to write about all sorts of subjects; I like to share conversations with others.
MARCH 15, 2006--Website Tidbits

We had Spring on Monday; now, it is back to Winter. Where is that groundhog? lol
Today I want to tidy up a few loose ends on website craeation. It feels like loose ends to me because I have some notes that I took while reading the HTML cafe book, which, by the way, is called "Sams Teach Yourself HTML 4". I just want to share some of these notes with you.

First of all, remember that you can create links to your own pages within a website and you can do it with a picture if you wish.
For example, if you want to have "Back", "Home", "Next" at the bottom of your pages, you could have little graphics with these words and have them act as a link with this tag:
<a href="name of page.htm><img src="next.jpg"></a>
You can have many elements in your tag; for example border=0, if you want to make sure you have no border around your graphic. You can have the width and height of the graphic, its position with "image align= etc".
When you have graphics on your webpage, you could include the alt attribute, <img src="" alt=""> That is for identification, and if the graphic doesn't load, at least the name will show.

At the top of webpages you will have link colors: Link (the color of unfollowed links), ALink (the color of activated links), VLink (The color of followed links).
So your body link will look like this:
<Body BGColor="#......" text="#......" Link="#......" Alink="#......" VLink="#......">

Tips from HTML Cafe for webpages: I would have linked to his page but I couldn't find it on-line.
So, this is directly from his book.

1. Between 100 and 500 words per page.
2. A headline, rule, or image every 40 to 100 words.
3. Page length---2 to 3 screens.
4. File size--he says 50kbs to 100kbs.
5. Colors--2 to 4 dominant ones.
6. Fonts..No more than 3.
7. 50% of background should show.
8. consistent mood and theme.

Finally, I want to point out to you that in Hour 8, he talks extensively about creating your own graphics. Take a peek, will you?
That's it for today.
Ciao for now.
