January 17, 2006-saving, sending links/photos

A few miscellaneous tips:

When you are at a site that you like and would like to revisit but don't necessarily want to put in your favorites, you can place a temporary shortcut on your desktop; just right click on the page and click on "create shortcut". It is now placed on your desktop.

When you have finished using this shortcut and want to get rid of it, just right click on it and click on "delete"

If you are on a page that you like a lot, and want to share it with a friend, click on FILE at the top of your browser, click on SEND / Link by email; your mail program will open (it does if OE is your default mail; I don't know about others), put the email address and send.

Also, while you are on the page, you can go to the address bar at the top, right click, click copy; open your email program and activate your message area; right click and click "paste"; address your message and send. This is another way of sending a link to a page. There is another way still:

If you have a shortcut on your desktop and would like to send that link, right click on the shortcut, choose "properties" right click on the url (address) that is there, click "copy"; go to your new message, right click and paste.

Ok, let's talk photos for a bit.

You have pics in your picture folder on your computer and you want to send one to a friend, right click on the photo; choose send to/mail recipient. A window comes up saying "make all my pictures smaller" choose that option if you which or choose the other option by clicking on the other; that is the radio button in front of "keep the original sizes". It's up to you. It depends what will be done with the photo. If it will be for printing, the larger size is better; if it is to be looked at on the computer, the smaller size is fine.

Ever wonder how big your photo is, anyway? Right click on it; click "properties" and the size is there. If your photo had thousands of kbs., your photo is probably extremely large in dimensions. Hover your cursor over the pic and a little window comes up giving you various information about your photo, and the dimensions are there. More to come on that subject later. Ciao for now.
