January 23, 2006--more OE tips

There are so many different little tricks in OE. Some are very helpful; some are just for fun.

You'll have to decide for yourself which ones of the following you want to experiment with.

Business card: You can create a business card that will be attached to all your outgoing messages. It will not be in the message per se, but at the end of the line where you put the address of your recipient.

To create it, first you have to have your own address in your address book. Then, in OE, go to tools, options, compose; go down to business card; put a checkmark in front of mail; browse to your address and click on it. Click apply and ok, and that's it. Next time you write a new message, it'll appear where I said earlier.

Saving an email: To save emails, I use 2 different methods. It depends what I want them for. If I want the information only, I use the first method; if I want to keep the email because I find it pretty and want to reuse it, I use the 2nd method.

First method: In  your inbox view panel, rightclick on "Local Folders"; click "new folder" and name it. Mine is called "Keep"; The next time you have a message that you want to keep for information, rightclick on the address bar of the message, click on "move to folder", click on the name of your folder that you created, and click ok. It has now moved there. Don't forget, once in a while to go in there and delete those that you no longer need. The same should be said about deleting messages that you no longer want in your other folders too.

OK, the second method. First create a new folder on your desktop, or in your documents. Now, when you receive a stationery that you like a lot, go to file, save as, give it a name if you want to or leave what is there and save in your new folder. Ok, if you open it and delete all the writing in there, you can write your own message and send it to whoever you want. I know that is a lot of work for one stationery, but sometimes it is so pretty that you would just like to make it yours for a while.

Later, you'll learn to make your own stationery if you want to.

Now, on to bigger and better things.

When you write a new message, you put the address of the recipient in the "to:" line. No problem. Ok supposing you are writing to someone and would like to send a copy to someone else, jut put their address in the "cc" line.

and the bcc line? I'll tell you that I use that one more often than the others. That is where I put the name of recipients when I have more than one recipient. The reason I use that bcc line is that my recipients can't see each others addresses. And they shouldn't...it goes without saying.

That's it for today. Ciao
