February 07, 2006--Picture Signatures
Picture Signature
Picture signatures in OE:

First, a few reminders:
If you get a link in OE, you can right click on the link in the email and click copy shortcut; then right click on your desktop and choose paste shortcut.

Also, if you are writing a letter and don't have the time to finish it, you can save it in your drafts and return to it later; this is how:
click ctrl+s and your unfinished letter will be saved to drafts. Later, go to drafts, double click on the title bar of the message, complete it, and send as usual.

You can click ctrl+n at any time to start a new message, and alt+s to send it.

In OE, in the inbox window, at the top there is a button called preview. If you click it, you can hide the preview pane. We do this for security.
If the preview pane is hidden, you can go through the titles of your incoming messages and if there are some there whose address or subject looks fishy to you you can delete them without even seeing the message.
This is not a must, just an option.

OK now I move on to the biggie.
When I talked about signatures in OE the first time, I explained how to create a text signature and I told you I would show you how to create a picture signature.
So here it is:
First you need a name tag; that's a little picture with your name on it.
You can make one if you have a graphic program to do so;
If you can't, you can go on the web in search of name tag sites (ask Google for animated name tags)and look through these sites to find your name tags.
There are hundreds of sites like this;
I would be surprised if you can't find your name unless you have a very unusual name.
If you are stuck, write to me; I'll make you one in a jiffy.
Ok, once you have your name tag, you will have to insert it in a file.
Open notepad and copy the following into it;

<html>
<head>
<title>Sig</title>
</head>
<body>
<img
src="c:/program files/common files/microsoft shared/stationery/my name.jpg"
</body>
</html>

ok; where I have "my name.jpg", you will need to put the name of your tag. for example, john.jpg or john.gif
Notice that there are 2 possible extensions. Make sure you put in the right extension.
Ok, now save this file; next to file name put "sig1.html"; note the extension is changed.

OK, now go to where your name tag is; right click and copy; go to start, window explorer; in the left pane, click on My computer,local disc(C), program files, common files, Microsoft shared, stationery;
ok, in the right hand pane where you see gifs, jpgs and html files, right click and choose paste.
Now go back to where your html file is; right click and copy; go back to that stationery folder; right click and paste. Close this folder.
We will now create the signature:
Open OE. Go to tools, options, signatures; click on new; put the radio button in front of file; browse to find your html file that you created. You have to find it in the stationery folder, don't forget...
My computer,local disc(C), program files, common files, Microsoft shared, stationery; click on it; make sure you have "all files" in file type. Click apply and ok. Done!!!!
The next time you write a letter, at the end, click insert/signature; choose the appropriate one and there you are.
Ciao for now.
