Web Activities
Groups:
If you are ever tempted to join a group, you could browse the following sites to find groups of interest to you:
MSN Groups
Yahoo Groups
Google Groups
All you will need to join a group is an ID and a password to the site, and then you go to the group you are interested in, and ask to join.
They will send you a notification in an email and you follow instructions.
If you don't want a lot of email to come flooding your way, look at the number of members in the group. This does not always tell the tale as many members may have become inactive. Also, once you are a member, you can put yourself on Digest as an option so you will only get a block of messages at a time rather than individual emails.
I speak a bit out of turn here because the only groups I have ever joined are Yahoo! groups, so I do n't know exactly how the other sites work.
Anyway, if you join a group, and are dissatisfied for any reason, you can leave the group at any time.
Also, in Yahoo, when I am going on vacation, or just want a break, I put myself on no-mail for a period of time.

Other activities that you might find interesting:
Newsletters:
If you visit a site and are very interested in their content, you might like to receive their newsletter, if they offer one. Just sign up.
I use an alternate email address for these so I can read them on the web rather than in OE. My alternates are Yahoo and Google mailboxes, but there are many more alternatives. A google search will give you more options.

There are also help sites that are interesting. If you become a member on these sites, you can then ask questions and they will be answered in short order.Another Google search...

Blogs:
Well obviously you have an idea what a blog is as you are reading one now. You can have your own blog, on any subject. It doesn't have to be public. It can be by invitation only or it can be private, just for you, as a diary...
There are many places where you can start a blog. A google search again will help you investigate the question.

Pictures:
Many people I know like to have their pictures on the web, for various reasons.I have always had some pictures on the web. I have used Yahoo! (of course), and now I also use Flickr because it is such a fun site.
I've told you before that they are owned by Yahoo! now. At this site, there are so many activities that you can do, that you could spend your whole life there. lol.
I've used MSN for pictures too, and Webshot. All these are good in their own right.

Briefcase:
If you have some files on your computer that you wouldn't want to lose, and you have not yet started to burn things to cd's or dvd's, you could upload them to the web for safe keeping.
I have always used Yahoo! briefcase.I don't use it so much now because I burn my files, but in the beginning of my computer experience it was a Godsend and kept me sane.
I know I talk a lot about Yahoo! and I'm certainly biased; however, they offer so many interesting activities and I have always been so pleased with their services, and all for free!!! How good can it get?

Website:
You might like to play a bit with a website.Mine, of course,is with Geocities (Yahoo again).
If you know nothing about building a website, they offer templates where all you need to do is plug in your content; it takes a bit of reading, investigating and work; I'll grant you that, but it is a very satisfying experience to be able to publish something to the web.
Later, if you become knowledgeable in HTML,(I hope to eventually write about this subject), then you would be able to write your own HTML website where you would have much more freedom to arrange your content as you please.
My first website was a template one; later I transferred most of my content to an HTML website I built.
My Website is still not great because my knowledge is limited and I don't seem to have a lot of time to work at it; however, it is there and I can build on this base anytime I choose to.It is particularly useful to me when I have very large files that I want to share with my friends and family. I upload it there, and they can view it on the web without having to download it to their computer.
I guess, I have just touched briefly on these subjects, and there might be more I could have described, but if I have whet your appetite for any of these, and demystified it a bit, I've accomplished what I have set out to do.
You can always ask a question.
Ciao for now.
