February 09, 2006--Windows Movie Maker
Windows Movie Maker
Windows Movie Maker is a fun little program that comes with XP.
I've played with it a bit. I don't know everything there is to know, that is for sure, but I have made a start, and would like to share with you what I have learned.
Open the program.
Go to File, New Project;
Then go to File, import into collection.
You will need a .wav file for the background music and 3 or 4 pictures.
Keep doing the File/import into collection/ browse trick until you have everything you need.
Then,go to View/ timeline;
now drag your music file to the audio/music line;
Then drag your pictures into the video line in the order that you want them to appear in your movie.
Ok, go to view/storyboard;( you can go to storyboard or timeline view anytime you choose to);
your pics are there and the music too.
If you want to check it out,make sure to highlight the first pic and in the right-top pane, click on play: (that is the very first button with an arrow pointing to the right.
When it is done, click on the 2nd button for stop.
Ok, making sure that you have the first pic highlighted,click on tools/video transitions; choose one and put it between your first 2 pics,in the little square that is there.
Now do the same for all the other little squares; you can choose different ones, and you can change them if you don't like them.
Then go to tools/video effects; in the future, you will be able to play with these for all sorts of different effects. However, for the fist time, try,slow down by half.I think it helps the pics to stay a bit longer in view. Don't quote me on that. I haven't double-checked it.
Now it is time to add words;
Go to tools/ titles and credits; here, you have to keep adding until you have them all.
Start by: Title at the beginning; write the title; now, notice that you can change the title animation and you can also change the text font and color and the color of your background; do that to your satisfaction and then click done, add to movie.
Go back to tools/titles and credits; do all the others one by one, always clicking done when you are satified.
Remember that you can keep checking what it looks like by viewing it in the right-top pane;
When you are completely satisfied with all this, it is time to save.
Now, if you are saving it only for yourself to view in Movie maker, or to edit it later, go to file/save project as/ give it a name. It will be saved in your video folder in My Documents.
However, if you would like to view it on your computer in Windows Media player, or you would like others to view it, go to file/save movie file; give it a name.
It will be a large file now, with the extension .wmv;
This one that I have made click to see is 3.18 MB; the quality is not as good as I would like;I had to compress it because my website server only accepts uploads up to 5 MBs, and my original movie was 7MBs.
I show it on my website because they are so large;I live in the boonies and am still on dial-up so size is very important to me.
Note*** If my server doesn't let you view the movie because there is too much activity, I trust you will be patient and try again later.
I have a little site and am not permitted a lot of activity because it is free.
something else to learn...lol That's all I know for now. Enjoy. Ciao for now.
