Aromatherapy for Baby

Newborns to 2 weeks:

Avoid use of all essential oils.  Carrier oils such as Jojoba/Sweet Almond on their own are nice to use for massage & skin nourishment.

2 weeks to 4 months:

  • Use 1 drop only of Lavender oil in bath to relax and calm, or
  • blend in 10ml carrier oil for body massage (avoid face),
  • or add to 5 ml carrier oil for foot massage to soothe irritability.  Rub thumbs from centre of sole towards the bottom of toes and over balls of feet.

Blends for babies 4 months onwards:

  • Antibacterial: tea tree, lavender - 1 drop each in nappy rinse water.
  • Colic: lavender, geranium - 1 drop lavender in warm water, soak/wring flannel and apply to abdomen.   Also, 1 drop each in 15ml carrier oil & massage in circular clockwise motion on belly.
