Six Months To Live - Continued
The entire ride and the whole way through lunch, she feared that he no longer loved her, that he did not want to be with her anymore, or that he had found someone else.  All these hurtful thoughts filled her mind, so that she no longer could enjoy her lunch, but she ate it anyway, so as not to make him feel bad.  She longed to hear what he had to share with her.  They finished eating, and he wiped his mouth with a napkin, then reached for the door handle.  He opened and instructed her to do the same.  Together they got out of the Chevy Blazer, and he walked over to her to take her by the hand.  Together they walked along, and down the pier towards the water.

He took her by the hand and led her out to the water, where the sun reflected off the water and they leaned against the wood railing and embraced.  He whispered into her ear that he loved her so, loved her more than anyone he had ever met, and that he would do anything to be with her for the rest of his life.  She smiled, looking up at him with love in her eyes.  He continued to tell her that he was sick.  Sick like how, she wanted to know, and he told her that soon he would die, and that he was wrong to become involved with her, to mislead her to believe that they would be together for a long, long time, and that the end of their relationship, the end of his life, could be any day or any minute.  And she looked up at him, and spoke the most simplest of words that he had ever heard, but that meant so much to him.  “I love you,” she said.  “I love you today, and I love you tomorrow, whether you are here or not, you are the one I want to be with for as long as we have together.”  And with that, they shared a soft, sweet kiss that seemed to last an eternity, but yet not long enough.

The sky began to turn dark as a storm cloud approached.  A raindrop fell from the sky, and landed on his cheek.  The two turned towards one another and once again he took her hand in his, and they began the walk back to their Chevy Blazer.
