Grazing Cow
Daniel Jeremy Perz

Grazing cow, do you ever get lonely?
Do you ever yearn for a companion,
Someone to share your life with
Someone to love when you’re happy
Someone to hate when you’re angry
Grazing cow, are you ever bored?
Do you ever wish you had games to play
Do you ever wish for something other than grazing

Do you ever wish you knew the chemical composition of grass
Grazing cow, are you ever inclined to revolt?
Do your masters annoy you, expecting so much milk
Do you ever feel violated, providing such a private service
Do you ever regret losing a friend to the meat grinder?
Grazing cow, do you ever wish for something more?
Or are you content to graze
          While wars are fought
          Murderers run loose
          Pedophiles prey on young children
Grazing cow, you look so nonchalant
Oblivious to the industry going up by the farm
To the chickens in the slaughterhouse
                    To the upcoming election
Grazing cow, nothing worries you
Grazing cow, I wish I was like you
