All my life I have read poetry and have had it read to me. Quite often there is a particular poem that I would love to be able to share with everyone but obviously because of the nature of fanfiction.net I can’t. The same with many pieces of music. I get a lot of my inspiration for my writings from both music and poetry. Some of the following I have already used as the basis for fics, others I intend to in the very near future. Others I just plain like, they either make me laugh or move me to tears. So, here for your viewing pleasure and hopefully enjoyment, are a selection of works that I find inspiring. Enjoy. Poems. Code Poem for the French Resistance. Leo Marks. The Highwayman. Alfred Noyes. (and many thanks to MelAngel for introducing me Loreena McKinnett’s song version of this most beautiful and haunting poem. I strongly recommend you check out the song as well if you ever get the chance.) Five Ways to kill a Man. Edwin Brock. The Parable of the Old Man and the Young. Wilfred Owen. Sea Fever. John Masefield. For an excellent archive of poems on the net I recommend you visit these chaps. It’s one of the best sites I have found so far and is updated daily. The Wondering Minstrels. http://www.cs.rice.edu/~ssiyer/minstrels/index.html Music. 'Love is Blindness.' U2 from the album 'Achtung Baby' The Edge delivers one of the most amazing guitar riffs of all time. 'Teach your Children.' Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young from the album 'So Far.' Just listen to the words! 'Find the Cost of Freedom.' again, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young from the album 'So Far.' The lyrics will blow you away. 'The Spy.' The Doors from 'Morrison Hotel.' Arrrgghhhhh, what can I say.? Very sexy and very seductive. You can almost imagine Jim hunched over the microphone in some smoky Parisan club at 3am, crooning away. *melts* 'Woodstock' Joni Mitchell 'Bombers into Butterflies...' what more needs to be said? Sums up the feeling of a generation. More to come... |
