damn nature

Today in our high-tech world we are constantly on the go. With cell phones, computers with internet connection, and advance bombs with deadly accuracy, when are we not talking to people or just plain worrying about tomorrow?

There is an old wives' saying "take time to stop and smell the flowers". While the wives' intentions are good (take time to slow down and enjoy the simple things in life) they have chosen a poor plant to stop and enjoy. Have you ever thought about how complicated flowers actually are? There are roses, daffodils, tulips, lilies, daisies, and pansies just to name a few. Which ones should you smell? Daisies have a warm summer aroma while the Sterling Rose is very sweet, like perfume. And then of course there is the Thistle which no one is quite sure what they smell like because no one can get close enough with all their prickles.

And while you are sniffing these flowers you may be unfortunate enough to inhale a small bug or insect living amongst the petals. You'll then have to set your memory to work trying to remember what the unfortunate creature looked like. Then you would have to get on the internet (the very evil you were trying to get away from) and research the bug to see if it was poisonous. If it was then your worries are over because it has probably killed you by now, but if it wasn't (which is most likely the case as we live in the United States and not South America) then you can take a deep calming breath and wash the bad taste out of your throat by drinking a large glass of milk.

Wouldn't it be a lot easier to just enjoy leaves instead of flowers? Leaves just come in one color, green, and your don't smell them like you do flowers. There are many different kinds of leaves as well, so everyone is bound to find at least one that they like. Aspen leaves which are a warm yellowish green. They are round leaves and often resemble a plump Buddha. Maple leaves, unlike the Aspen, are a deep forest green although in the fall they change colors to golden browns and vibrant reds, yellows, and oranges like a flame, the shape the Maple leave mimics. A Blue Spruce's leave looks very different completely. It is shaped like a needle and is a turquoise color.

My goodness, leaves really aren't that simple at all. Clouds. Clouds are simple. There are dark rain clouds, white fluffy clouds, nimbus clouds, clouds with shapes...
