At the start of the AIDS crisis in America, the armed forces ejected soldiers with HIV. Then, in the late '80's, thanks to the government, Defense showed greater respect for the civil rights of their HIV positive personnel. Another pattern increased, however, reflected in a single code word, made famous by a renown San Francisco journalist: "Homovac". The trend was the forced evacuation and incrimination of military personnel discovered to be gay.
