“But it’s cold in here!” B’Elanna wailed.
Kathryn rolled her eyes and dryly replied. “That’s the whole point, now, isn’t it?”
“Apparently you’ve forgotten that Klingon’s don’t like cold places.”
“Apparently you have forgotten that you’re only half Klingon.” Kathryn teased.
Matter-of-factly, B’Elanna stated, “I inherited the cold-hating-gene from my mother.”
Kathryn knew there was no way to win it like this, so she tried a different approach.
She wiggled her eyebrows suggestively. “You know, the best part about being cold, is the warming up part afterwards… And I know just the thing to get you hot…”
It worked. A mischievous gleam appeared in B’Elanna’s eyes. “Well then, what are we waiting for? Let’s get cold already!”
Smiling at her lover’s sudden enthusiasm, Kathryn ordered two pairs of ice-skates and assisted B’Elanna with putting hers on. They helped each other up and waggled to the edge of the arena. “Bend your knees and lean forward a little.” Kathryn held B’Elanna’s hands as they stepped on the ice.
B’Elanna swayed a bit and firmly gripped Kathryn by the shoulders.
“I’ll skate backwards until you find your equilibrium on the ice. Just use me to steady yourself.”
They slid around for a while and B’Elanna quickly got the hang of it. Soon she and Kathryn were skating hand in hand, like many of the other holographic couples.
There was soft music playing in the background and dim little lights hung all around. The setting was definitely very romantic and B’Elanna had to admit to herself that ice-skating wasn’t as cold and boring as she had thought it would be. But that probably had a lot to do with the smoldering looks Kathryn kept sending her way.
All of a sudden, Kathryn let go of B’Elanna’s hand and in retrograde skated away from her, teasingly holding out her hand.
All alone, B’Elanna still felt a little insecure on the ice and she reached out for the support of her lover who kept skating scarcely out of her reach. Just before she actually got hold of Kathryn’s hand, the woman made a sharp turn and circled around B’Elanna.
B’Elanna shrieked, lost her balance and fell backwards. She impacted with Kathryn and knocked her off her feet as well. Together they smacked on the ice in a tangle of arms and legs, sliding and spinning because of their momentum. For a moment neither of them moved, but then Kathryn pushed herself up a little. She flexed her limbs and looked at B’Elanna to see if she was okay. The Klingon sprawled all over her was obviously a little dazed, but otherwise seemed fine.
Laughter bubbled up in Kathryn’s chest. With her arms spread out, she laid back on the ice and laughed out loud, her whole body shaking.
B’Elanna sat up and cast an incredulous look at her lover. “What’s so funny? Hmm?”
Kathryn only laughed harder and soon B’Elanna found herself grinning as well. She hovered over her lover’s body. “I’m going to get you for that…”
Kathryn’s eyes sparkled. “Is that a promise my dear?”
“You bet it is.” B’Elanna throatily replied.
Kathryn swallowed at the predatory look B’Elanna gave her. She lifted her head to kiss her lover but now it was B’Elanna’s turn to tease her. The Klingon pushed herself upright and cautiously tried to get back on her feet. Kathryn grabbed her and rolled on top of her lover, effectively pinning her to on the ice.
In a low and husky voice, Kathryn spoke. “I think it’s time we started on the ‘heating up’ part of the evening…”
She ordered the computer to initiate stage two of the program.
The ice disappeared and in a blink of an eye they were lying on soft pillows in a cozy log cabin with candles all over the place and a blazing fire in the hearth.
B’Elanna purred appreciatively. “We’ve got to go ice-skating more often…”
