Personal Details: |
Assumpta Evadne was born in Southern England, location unknown, in May 2354. The exact date is also unknown, because Assumpta was born in her mother's home. Her mother was a young Betazoid woman who had fallen in love with a young Starfleet officer. He resigned to be with her, and she escaped her powerful family to go to Earth and live with him. Assumpta was their only child, and spent her first years in a loving home. When she was four years old, Assumpta almost drowned when she and her mother fell into the water at a pier on the coast of Wales. Her mother drowned and Assumpta almost followed her to her death. But she was saved and despite the slight brain damage the doctors suspected, she grew strong again. Without his wife to teach him, William was unprepared when Assumpta started showing signs of having strong empathic abilities. She would feel pain from someone else, start laughing without any reason and suddenly speaking as if she was someone else. It did not help that William had become an alcoholic, blaming himself for his wife's death. He was deemed unfit to father her when she was ten years old, and Assumpta was sent to an institution for girls. There, she grew more and more quiet in a silent rebellion against those who had taken her from her home. But without her mother and with the slight brain damage she had gotten in the accident, Assumpta had no control over her abilities. She was not telepathic, but she would sense the emotions of others as keenly as she knew her own. She had no mental walls to push up, and she had no way of defending her own mind against the assaulting emotions. She grew more and more locked up in her mind and would spend hours sitting by the window, murmuring to herself. The institution's psychiatrist recommended that she would be moved to a mental institution rather than the orphanage where she had spent six months. There, she could get proper treatment. But Assumpta couldn't be helped. Not in a permanent way anyway. Locked away amongst people more unstable than she was, she quickly went to their level. She would rave at the nurses, shouting and screaming at them. She would spend hours observing them as surely as they observed her through the many cameras. She would refuse to listen. By chance, a young Starfleet counsellor was sent there. He was fascinated by the girl, who was not more than 15. After having a doctor scanning her, he saw the problem. And he was
horrified that no one had noticed before. It was not Assumpta that had gone astray, but her abilities. She felt the emotions of those around her, taking them for her own. Her behaviour was the result of the lack of mental walls. Errol O'Brian wanted to know more, because he had never seen a half-Betazoid with such abilities and the lack of walls. He spent hours with her in a locked room, using cards as a way to communicating. He noticed her interest in the cards and eventually taught her how to play a few games. Then, he noticed something extraordinary. Based on his emotions and some analytical skills, she could control the game. She could even, to a certain extend, affect how he played. The discovery was important enough to tell Starfleet, and Starfleet saw it fit to take Assumpta from the institution and take her into their care to train. Her abilities could after all be useful. In 2380, she was called back to Starfleet after being caught yet again not using her medication. To make sure she did, because she was after all not a stable woman with an ability that could be used against others and enough information inside her head to be useful for anyone who stood against Starfleet and the Federation. Her analytic skills would serve Starfleet well, and her empathic abilities were easy to use against any enemy. Through the drug, she could be controlled. She was therefore sent to the USS Louisiana as an advisor, having a civilian specialist status. She was seemingly under control, only breaking her medication when the Ship's captain felt it was need for her abilities. Without the drug, her analytic skills were at their sharpest, and she was often used in Tactical. |

Personality Profile: |
"Although Miss Evadne can function very well in social situations, she is unpredictable and often unresponsive towards others. Her medication dampens her empathic abilities, but also her emotions. High peaks of joy and low valleys of sadness are straightened out, leaving her in a constant state of seriousness and perhaps even
melancholy. But it is a cost that is paid gladly for the sanity of this woman." Commander Lucia Fernal, Counsellor, USS Louisiana. "She appears almost like a raving lunatic, or perhaps the only sane person in the room when she is off the medication. It is unknown whether it is subconscious that she tunes herself into others, or if she does it deliberate. However, what we know is that this ability can go both ways. Half-Betazoids are always unpredictable when it comes to the abilities they inherit, and as powerful as hers are, she has no control whatsoever." Petyr Drinkwater, doctor, Luna Base. Assumpta's greatest regret is the lack of things she feels when she is taking Leytra. She spends most of her off duty time reading or listening to music, trying to recreate the deep emotions. She has a cynical side, and a logic that is as twisted as it makes sense. Some might say that she is obsessed with feeling things as well as the idea that others feel. But when she is off the medication, she can even be violent if she feels threatened. She becomes almost mysterious and very unpredictable. Though for what strength she has in her mind, she has no control. She cannot use her ability as an active weapon, or even pretend to know what she is doing. And when she is on her medication, she often gets dizzy spells. But her analytic skills, developed from childhood, make it all worth it. As a person, she does have some good sides. She tries to be helpful, and does a lot of volunteer work. She also tries to be useful with weapons, but despite having tried to train herself with Phasers, she has no talent or use for it. She gets hurt easily, but makes herself not show it. To others she either comes across as a cold Englishwoman, or as a freaky cold Englishwoman. Her experiences in the mental institution makes her withdrawn from others at times, as well as oddly unstable. The signs are paranoia and muttering things aloud to herself, which might be a sign that she has adopted some of the mannerism of a schizophrenia patient. |

| Special Notes: | Assumpta's empathic abilities are the result of her mother's genes and some kind of genetic mutation, not really unknown amongst half-Betazoids. It has made her an empath, but the slight brain damage as a result of lack of air has damaged the part of the brain that controls the ability, therefore making her incapable of building mental walls to block people's emotions out, as well as her own emotional output. She uses the drug Leytra to dampen her emotions, and the side effects are slight paranoia, lack of emotions and dizziness. | ||||||||||||||||||
