Biography:

Lt. Colonel Kenny Gray, born on Earth in 2337, was always destined to become a Starfleet Officer. Unlike his parents, he was a much taller person, and he had much more of an interest in handling difficult situations and getting the job done than exploring the Galaxy. They thought that he might join the Security forces, or Starfleet Intelligence. In 2355, at the age of just 18, Kenny applied to the Starfleet Marine Corp Training College, and four years later, he emerged as a weapons expert and with the Marine Corp rank of 2nd Lt. His first assignment sent him to the USS Neversail one of the old Rigel Class vessels. He served on as a weapons expert in its small, Special Operations Marine team. His unit was limited, and their operations weren’t always essential, although sometimes their Operations were off the record. On his first day on board the Neversail, he met Lt. Michelle Carlson, and fell in love with her straight away. He never mentioned it to her, but they did become friends and remained so throughout their service together. In 2362, Kenny was given a reprimand for Conduct unbecoming an Officer. He was caught having Sex in the Crew lounge with a Diplomatic representative to a race attending a Diplomatic Conference. He was issued a warning as a result.

In 2365, he received the Weapons Qualification Level 3 - Marksman, and consequently he received a Promotion to 1st LT. In 2368, The Neversail conducted a small raid on an Orion smuggling ring, and Gray’s unit was heavily involved. He received the Marine Citation of Gallantry award. In 2369, He not only received his Ten Year Service award, but he was also promoted to Captain (SFMC), and he was made the Executive Officer of the Unit. In 2370, he received another reprimand to his file, when he attacked a Superior Officer. However, he was acquitted of charges when Superior Officer had been found to be provoking then Captain Gray. As XO of the Marine Unit, he was responsible for the organisation of the Mission to Katarius that the Neversail was assigned on.

In 2371, Yet another reprimand was added to Kenny’s file, and again it was for conduct unbecoming an Officer. He was again caught having Sex in the Crew Lounge, this time with a junior officer and he was issued another Warning. In late 2371, he was reassigned to the 48th Mobile Infantry Division attached to the USS Okinawa, an Excelsior Class Starship. Along with him being reassigned, so was Lt. Commander Carlson, who assumed the role of Chief Tactical/Second Officer of the Okinawa. By this stage his feelings for her had grown, but he still refused to talk to her about it. He again served on board as a Captain in the Capacity of Marine XO. The Okinawa saw a lot of Combat during the war with both the Klingons, and the Dominion.

In 2374, during the Battle of Betazed, Captain Gray was injured. After the battle, he received the Purple Heart Award and the Battle of Betazed Award. In December 2374, the combined forces of Starfleet, Klingon, and Romulan vessels launched an attack on the Chin’toka system, as part of the drive into Cardassian Space, the USS Okinawa was part of that fleet. When they landed ground troops on the surface, the 48th Mobile Infantry Division comprised the second wave of SFMC, Klingon Warriors, and Romulan and Reman Infantry to land on the surface. Taking part in the ground operation earned him the 1st Battle of Chin’toka Award.

In 2375, when the SFMC led a massive take-over of the AR558 relay station, he received the Battle of AR-558 Award. In the final act of the Dominion War he received the Battle of Cardassia Award, given to those who took part in Cardassia’s Invasion. As a survivor of the war, he also received the Dominion War Award. In 2376, he was promoted to Major and given Command of the Marine forces on board the Okinawa. It occurred during a crew rotation, and Carlson was promoted to Captain and given Command. She granted him the position of Second Officer of the Okinawa.

After years of dedicated duty, Gray received the Marine Citation of Gallantry Award in 2377. However, another reprimand cropped up in ’78, when he was found guilty of Misappropriation of Materials and Equipment he was sentenced to two weeks suspension and a further month of community service. He had taken some equipment without gaining authorisation to use it, then lost it. In 2379, he was reassigned to the 601st Mobile Infantry Division attached to the USS Sun Tzu. Just before he left the Okinawa, Captain Carlson came to see him. She told him that she’d always known that he loved her, and that she loved him. They began a relationship, and continue to stay in touch via subspace.

Soon after boarding the Sun Tzu, Gray was found to have a defect in his frontal lobe. The cause remains unknown, and it remains out of his Medical Records. Several possible outcomes that could develop from defect, including rheumatism, which was the one identified as the most likely to develop. His time on the Sun Tzu wasn’t as fruitful as he’d hoped however, when the ships Commanding Officer was forced to resign, all of it’s personnel were transferred. Gray took his staff to the USS Resolution, and prepared to set up a well-oiled team of his Marines.

Within a week of the six-oh-ones arrival on the Resolution, they received their first official mission with Gray in Command. The mission was part of a large Starfleet Operation, led by the Resolution. It involved a battle in orbit of the Planet Juanitor between a Breen rebellion force, a Starfleet Task Force, and a Klingon Defence Force wing. Included in that Operation was the infiltration of the Research facility on Juanitor, which was conducted by Gray's small 7 man team. Gray also requested the presence of the rest of the six-oh-one to 'make some noise' as he saw it to draw Breen forces away from the base. That was a factor which proved to be successful to the missions outcome, when it was discovered that the base was both a research station and a military outpost.

Unfortunately for Major Gray, he was injured during a fire fight with the Breen, and incurred some minor internal injuries, and a Major internal injury, specifically a fractured Arm. The nature of the fracture prevented the Doctors from performing the traditional methods of healing it. He now wears a sling to hold it in place while his body tries to heal itself. He received another purple heart award as a result of the injury, and everyone on the mission to the ground received a new award, the Battle of Juanitor Award. However, the six-oh-one was reassigned by Starfleet, feeling they would be better suited in a roaming mode of operation. However, they gave Gray a new unit, allowing him to choose to keep some of his six-oh-one staff aboard the Resolution. That new unit became known as the 171st Mechanised Infantry Division.

During a mission to what was believed to be an uninhabited Planet, the Resolution lost both it’s Captain, and Executive Officer to Hostage Situations, leaving Gray in Command to negotiate for their safe return. Gray planned to lead a large ground assault in an effort to retrieve them, until negotiations began, and proved successful, largely thanks to Gray’s own efforts. Captain Carey granted him the Role of Second Officer aboard the Resolution. That role was short lived however, when Admiral Summers decided that Gray wasn't right for the job, and replaced him with someone that the Admiral could trust.

In 2382, the Resolutions Marine Corp Unit was changed once again, this time to a Hazard Team. The unit was made smaller, and Gray received a promotion to Lt. Colonel. However, before reporting aboard the new Resolution-A, Gray was transferred to Deep Space 3, to head up their unit. His transfer there was a request by Rear Admiral Greg Hanson, whom he'd become friends with when Hanson was Executive Officer of the Neversail.

Personality Profile:

Gray is an experienced Combat Officer, who is passionate when talking about his service to the Starfleet Marine Corp. He has served on the Frontlines in several major engagements, and seen good men and women lost to an enemy that tried to take away the Livelihood of the Federation. He’s been injured in combat, he’s seen friends die, he’s seen bloodshed throughout his service, all of those things have made him a stronger officer, an officer who’s learned that all life must be treasured, every moment must be savoured. But at the same time he’s aware that an attention to duty is essential.

Since the conclusion of the War with the Dominion Kenny has continually made those feelings clear when a member of the crew under his Command has gone astray from their duties. He has been known to place reprimands into people’s files for simply taking more than five minutes for a coffee break. Lt. Colonel Gray’s Love for Captain Michelle Carlson runs deep, and has since the day they met. He hopes that one day they will be married, but even though he his ‘getting on a bit’, he feels it isn’t time yet.

Special Notes: Kenny's middle name is named after an Ancestor of his, who Commanded the NX-04 Challenger.
