Personal Details:

Unlike most families, Marc wasn't born out of love. His father, Captain Angelus de Luca, gave in to the sin of lust one night while he visited his lover on Vulcan. But his lust was not directed to the woman he loved, instead, it was directed towards her underage daughter after a long night of heavy drinking. Aleana Guererro was discovered pregnant three months later, and her family were furious.

Threatening to expose the secret of the one night affair to Starfleet Command, the Guererro's forced Angelus to care for their daughter, who they masqueraded as an adult, and for the child. Marcus de Luca. Reluctantly, Angelus allowed Aleana to live with him. But the resentment and anger he felt led him to domestic abuse. Not allowing her to be treated, in fear of being exposed, Aleana's injuries were too severe for her body to handle birth and died in labor.

With no love or affection from his father, Marc learned to hate very early in life. But despite hating his father, he developed the same devious dark nature as him. He soon left his father behind to study at the Vulcan School of Science and later Starfleet Academy, feeding his bizarre passion for knowledge ad to learn how things worked. To his classmates on both Vulcan and Earth, he seemed scruffy and undisciplined, but what few realized was that behind every action he made and every word he spoke there was a plan forming in the back of his mind. He was the subject of many rumors, and stories were whispered through the halls of the academy. No one sure what was true and what was false.

In fear of a repeat of the old Romulan wars due to the political climate, de Luca also trained in receiving additional credits in tactical and field medic basic training in his third and fourth years. Although de Luca preferred anthropology to any other science, he kept focused on making a career in the ranks of Starfleet, in hope that his intelligence would be challenged by discovery of bold new worlds and adventures with mysteries to be solved. His hunger for such things were rarely fed in his early career. It was when the Krened war broke out that de Luca's talents were put to full potential. His ability to break alien languages and unknown codes were put to good use on away missions along with his input on technological problems when working close with the Engineering department. The time spent fighting the Krened was his most challenging both professionally and personally with added strain to his love life as he constantly risked his life in away missions to capture Krened ground and technology. He was assigned under the command of his father until his death, and the destruction of the Cyclone.

It was the death of Angelus de Luca that brought a serious edge to the rumors surrounding Marc. When Angelus died, the only person with him was his son, but despite many assuming Marc had murdered the father he hated, a body was never found to confirm it. That was not de Luca's only confrontation with death as four months later his wife and shipmate Liana Ren-Tala was killed in combat when the USS Cyclone-A was boarded by Keened-T'Larr troops and captured. Due to his work on the ship, de Luca was taken prisoner in a Krened prison camp, but later escaped wit the help of Cardassian rebels.

He was never the same after the torture he endured at the camp, and despite going back to work quickly, many assumed he was not mentally stable to do so. He claimed to have found a faith, to have a driving force in his life, but he only ever explained this driving force to one man, his former roommate Perry Spatula, by telling him that he had found a dark place within his soul, and he found comfort in it. Perry was unsure what that meant, but he didn't live long enough to figure it out, as he committed suicide before Marc was prosecuted for conspiring with terrorists.

The Terrorist group "Ran'taka Nawa'Ren", took advantage of the mystery and rumour that surrounded de Luca's persona. The terrorists framed de Luca in an attempt to stain the Federations good name by linking him with the group. They claimed that secretly the Federation supplied both the authorities and the terrorists with weapons to wipe both sides out. Although the evidence was manufactured, it raised too much suspicion and the records presented that supported the case was too well a forgery to deny. The only way out they could find was to have a member of the Federation take the blame. They ordered Marc to plead guilty for the crimes.

He was sent to be court-martialled on Earth. Although the Federation knew of his innocence, they had no choice but to prosecute to keep their reputation safe. They were unwilling to throw him out of the service, and felt they should look after him. While he was charged for aiding terrorists, stripped of his medals, his status, rank, honor and position they gave him the opportunity to start again, and although he felt cheated by the Federation, he chose to be reassigned and face the hatred of his next crew as he tried to rebuild his life.

The new chapter of his life began on the USS Cairo, a deep space exploration vessel, where he served for several years in various departments. His persona became slightly more dark and devious as he played up to the villain people assumed he was. He got himself into several relationships before finally settling down with a former intelligence agent and long term friend, Jess St. John, after admitting his feelings for her. The two raised a child on the Cairo, something that changed Marc for the better. The crew reacted to him better when they saw him as a father, and his work life seemed to fall back into place as he was given a credible position of authority on board the ship. But, as always nothing good ever lasted in his life, and eventually, when he was finally beginning to feel comfortable in Starfleet once again, Jessica left him. He didn't react well to the break up, and after she had left with their child, Marc snapped. He became more vicious and aggressive with his friends and crewmates and after a physical confrontation with the XO, he left the ship to regain control of himself.

It was his next assignment that pushed him in the direction of command, as on the Dawn Treader he gave up his research to train in starship command. He have no real explanation why, but in the back of his mind, he was forming another plan. He trained long and hard, keeping his head down until being transferred to Remora under request to be with a woman he had been seeing whilst on one of many questionable vacations he took.

His time on Remora lasted two missions, but it showed the true side of Marc. His hatred showed just as strong as it had as a child, but not against his father. He would argue with Command, publicly attack the Federation and it's policies. It was clear he hate the government he worked for and was passionate about striking against it. His crew began to rebel, and it was then he realized he needed to move on.

When the second mission was concluded, Remora's crew was given extended shore leave. When they returned to the ship, their captain was gone.

Personality Profile:

Despite having a harsh and forward personality, de Luca is known to the few that know him for his ability to listen, understand and to help others. He uses odd tactics to get people to realize their flaws, and often takes great pride in being able to get inside others minds and get close to others while still housing the ability to keep them guessing about him. He doesn't like being close to people, as he feels they will only let him down, but he does set his mind to help people when the need arises as part of his work as a command level officer. He feels he should be there to support other personnel if the need arises.

Although he hides his emotions from others well, he is still recovering from mild forms of depression and is going through anger management therapy. He refuses to let it interfere with his work, and rarely shares these problems with anyone. He believes his problems are the result of a cruel joke by the universe, who is delivering the bad karma his father built up and is suffering for his mistakes. But he is more than happy to thrust the same level of evil back upon the universe in his own form of anarchy.

Those who don't know him see him as an odd man, which is understandable as his little eccentricities, his ability to tell the truth all too well and his opinions can be at time very forward. He enjoys being an enigma. Though very caring, he can at times be adversarial, and is often defensive about himself and is past, especially when discussing the deaths of his wife's and father. His spiritual side, which feeds off strong emotions, also leads some who don't understand it to view him oddly.
