Biography: |
Nurit was born into a big family on a small desolated planet somewhere in the borders of federation space. Theirs is but a small race, only a few million people, and though much appreciated to the federation due to a high level of technology, they mostly keep to themselves and rarely have any contact with the outside world. Very little is actually known about them, and the federation mostly respect their privacy. Grown mostly in a world who isn't industrial, and that inspires and appreciate study and research above all other, beneath all the patience studying, Nurit grew restless. She wanted to see the stars, and what the universe has to show her. She grew restless each year, and finally, at the age of 17, and despite her environment's disapproval, she said only a few goodbyes, and left without much explanation, to see what's out there. Hitch-hiking on ships, using her talent at story telling as her ticket, and after having some bad falls being as innocent as she was, she has finally decided that the best way to see the world was to join Starfleet and see what the universe is really about. Hiding her true origin as a hitchhiker was easy, she looks just like any normal human, but of course she couldn't fool Starfleet, they knew about her specie's different eye-sight, that allows them to see auras, learn about a person's true appearance, about his physical condition and illness, and even on some cases tell extreme emotions, and although she was the first of her species ever to apply, and little was known about their psychology, they offered her a chance to study which they thought would fit her perfectly- medical. And as it turns out, they were right, and wrong. Seeing people hurt and bleed, and since she was extremely sensitive even for one of her kind, made her eyes sore and on extreme cases bleed, as if she was feeling the same pain, it did lessen in time, and she learned to conceal and control it most of the time. On the other hand of course, she could tell instantly if someone was sick or injured, where, and what was the cause, she could pinpoint the exact origin of a problem, even before she started examine a patient and putting words into the shapes and colors streaming in front of her eyes. Nurit had also learned that she really likes her sight, and more importantly, she had discovered her calling and her need to heal and help. That calling of her heart helped compensate for the hard and strict rules of the academy, taking orders was very hard on her, and she really liked doing things her own way. She was brilliant, but had a hard time adjusting to the regs and standard procedures in treating patients. After she finished the Academy she was offered a research position on a ground station, a position she refused, as her aim was always the stars. After no alternative came, she went off traveling again, offering her medical skills on different planets and ships, not necessarily federation ships, she also visited home for awhile, and that's when one of her Academy teachers contacted her, offering her yet another research position. After much consideration, and after learning at home something she has always thought was just a rumor about her own people, she agreed to stay closer to home, and accept the position. Her people told her, that in the old days, once a young person showed aptitude towards medicine and caring, they could not just see the flow of the aura, they could also affect it and change it. She thought that if she stays close to home and study more about it, she might unravel the secret. After a year of frustrating, and to her boring, work, she was all fed up with sitting in the same place doing very little (in her own mind of course), and despite the rest of the crew who appreciated her work and wanted her to stay, she began looking for a ship that will take her to the stars again. |

Personality Profile: |
Nurit is a very curios person, she likes to know and learn as much as she possibly can. She is very optimistic and with sometimes a rather blunt sense of humour. Seeing pain or suffering is something she cannot withstand without doing something, and she will do her best to help in any way she can, even if that way seems wrong by others. She does not take orders easily, and really need to trust her CO before she can accept commands without question, she is very much a free spirit, but once she does trust a person she is loyal without questions. She is very friendly, and likes meeting new people, her human appearance usually helps avoiding hard questions about her people (something which she is quite frankly fed up by now), and despite her age, she has the appearance of very innocent. Nurit looks younger then she really is, short and thin, she usually looks and walks proud and with self confidence. She mostly wears white simple clothes, made of cotton or something similar, and her long hair braided. On sickbay she adds a blue Starfleet gown above it, and if her CO will insist, or on official stuff meetings and other formalities, she will wear her uniform, but she always looks a lot more comfortable and relaxed without them. |

| Special Notes: |
The Ourim Race Location/ Place of origin: Ourim Prime Population: 10 million people. Appearance: Human: fair skinned, light coloured hair (blonde, red, light brown), light coloured eyes (blue, green, yellow- brown) Special Abilities: The ability to see auras. Ourim can see the flow of life around a living being, identifying information about that person's physical status and on extreme cases, his mental status. This is normal to them and a part of their usual eye-sight. They are born with it, and taught since childhood it is rude to discuss it without the person's approval (kind of like we treat hearing something about a person behind his back, we know it's rude, we won't usually do it, or admit we do it…). "Bad flow" (a person who is sick or injured) affects them because they can actually see it, like we are affected by smelling something really foul. It is actually the reason why they prefer to remain mostly isolated, and why they are so close to one another in a community. Race history: According to legends and very early recorded history, the Ourim were once a great people, populating many worlds, and serving other races as famous diplomats and healers. In time and over many centuries of wars, disease, and natural disasters, their population lessened. There is also a famous legend about a war with an unknown today species, a terrible fight that destroyed many races who were existing in that time, and nearly destroyed the Ourim. After only a few of them left, the Ourim gathered on their planet, determined to preserve knowledge and technology from the lost races, and from before the war. They have after that war, become very isolated, busy with their studying of history, lost cultures, and old and new technologies.
Centuries later the federation found them as a small, isolated, peaceful nation. They agreed to join, and share knowledge, mostly about technological advances, in return to remaining undisturbed. The federation agreed, and though now a member of the federation for a few hundred years, very little is known about them, and they take no part in other worlds' affairs and interactions.
Race inner culture and society: Ourim live together in one big community, they have big families of people living together, and do not necessarily mate for life, or rather, they form close groups of male- female of any number from 2 to 10 people in a group, acting as a family, and all are sharing parenthood of the children born. They have a government, and a ruler, but their job is mostly formality and to deal with the outside world, any big decision (and such haven't been in many years) is brought to a public vote. They don't have a class/ cast/ race systems, everyone fit- in in what they do best, males and females are considered equal (most of the Ourim living today wouldn't know there is any other option!). |
