My name's David Carey, and I'd like to welcome you to the STAR TREK: Resolution Play-By-eMail Simulation. We're a Pathfinder Mark II Class Starship. We're set in the Star Trek: The Next Generation / Star Trek: Deep Space 9 / Star Trek: Voyager timeline. The current Sim year is 2382, approximately 3 years after Nemesis. To get a better idea of what's going on in the Timeline right now, take a look at our Main page. The STAR TREK: Resolution is a Play-By-eMail simulation, which, of course, means the game is played out over e-mail. A central Game Master (or GM) controls the plot, while the characters are made up by the players, and contribute and influence in their own way. An Assistant GM (s) fills in for the GM whenever he's away and co-runs the game. Think of it like those round-robin storytelling's you used to do in school. In this case, your particular character is set in the Star Trek universe, in the late twenty-fourth century. It should be noted that not all missions are plotted by the GM - you can certainly submit a mission outline to me at any time.

Here's where you come in. The hardest part is deciding what sort of character you want to play aboard the Starship Resolution. Your best bet is to pick a favourite species or job from whatever Trek show you like. Then, imagine your character. It's best to be as detailed as possible - remember, you'll be writing this person, how they think, how they act, how they feel. It's all up to you. Just remember that there's a Code of Conduct. That'd be those Rules I had you read. It should go without saying that common courtesy and politeness are required.

Experienced Players will be offered better deals when applying to the sim, like higher ranks, and higher positions aboard ship, possibly as Junior/Senior Department Heads. Be aware though, in experienced players will typically have a character that will be an Ensign, either fresh from the Academy or fresh from his first or second posting. Try to write your character accordingly. More often than not, new players come aboard mid-mission. In this case, it is treated as though they've been aboard ever since the Ships last stop at a Starbase, and their first post is merely their first "On Camera" appearance, so to speak. Unless of course, the mission necessitates a different sort of entrance. For example, the ship finds a damaged vessel, where most of the crew are dead, and your character is one of the survivors.

Your character sketch should include the following (Note - the better your character sketch, the more likely you are to start off with a higher rank.) Please remember to be as detailed as possible - it will help you in the long run.

Name: Your character's full name
Rank: Determined by the GM's based on character bio and player experience.

Species: Feel Free to be original, as long as there is sufficient race data to accompany it.

Age: how old your character is, in human years
Height: character's height, in feet (It makes things easier for everybody)
Weight: character's weight, in pounds (Same reason)

Eyes: Eye colour please folks

Hair: It'd also be nice to have the hair colour, help us visualise it a little better

Birthplace: Where was your character was born

Date of birth: when was your character was born

Academy Graduating Class: What year did your character graduate the Academy. Taking in mind that a typical Academy Entrance is at age 18, and Academy Studies last 4 years. And also taking in mind that we are set in the year 2382.

Specialities: What Specialities does your character have. Try to keep them as realistic as possible. I.E. if your character is a Security Officer, then one of their specialities wouldn't be 'Cardiac Surgical Expert' (which would be a trait connected with the Medical Officers.

Hobbies: What hobbies does your character have.

Family: Mother, Father, Any brothers/sisters. Other family of importance, anyone else that your character considers family, eg - spouse, children ... etc.<

Decorations: Realistic Decorations Please, also on the approval of GM's.

Reprimands: Any black marks on your characters record.

Service record: What ships has your character served on. (Please include dates, ship name, rank, and job title)

Background: where did your character grow up? what major events have occurred in his/her life?

Personality: What's your character like? Are they someone you'd want to hang around? Or a grouch?

Special notes: Any particular little titbits not covered elsewhere.

Picture Preference: Please include three names of actors/actresses/celebrities that you would like to be used as your Bio Image. If all three of your options are taken up by current player characters, player protected characters, non-player characters, or recurring player characters, then we will ask you to select someone else.

Remember, details, details, details!

Also, it never hurts to read other crewmember's Bios, or go back and read some of the old logs. That'll give you an idea of what you're in for. It'll also give you an idea of the type of people you'll be playing with.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to e-mail me privately and I’ll be more than happy to answer them. It will be you, the player, that makes this work. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Hope to hear from you soon.
