This game plays like a command and conquer style game. You are given a birds-eye view of a section of the Quadrant, and you complete the given mission as one of the 4 empires. The Federation, Romulans, Klingons, and for the first time ever - the BORG!

The cut-scene moviies, are as ever fantastic, especially the return of Locutus of Borg. Although you can't play them without the map-editor (see below..) you can engage the Dominion, Ferengi and the Cardassians.

Although the game plays well, it is too easy to win. All you need is to basically build up a large armada (around 30 starships), whilst defending your initial starbase. After that, its just a question of taking your armada to the nearest target (starting from the weapon posts) and them the ships, and by the time the enemy starts to build more ships you've won.

I expected a wider variety of ships (especially for the Federation), such as the Miranda Class, Intrepid Class etc etc. After a point, you don't care about the game - only the story line too see what happens.

The DEMO avaliable from www.activision.com is good fun, and allows you to take part in the first two Federation missions. The harder level, needs to have the time "slowed down" to give yourself enough time to think before the Borg attacks with their assimilated Starfleet vessels….
