Devotion

Five years ago i put up a wesite about my favorite movie, Star Wars. In the Fall of 1997 I was a freshman in college with absolutely no HTML knowledge. I was studying networking and had to take a multimedia class. This class taught me how to use basic HTML. At first my site was basic with bright colors, different ones at that, and very little information but I put it on the Web anyway. I knew that if I waited to put it up when I truly finished it that I wouldn't do it. i wanted to put up the best Star Wars site around. I wanted alot of information and graphics with a great design. How could I do it without the knowledge? After a while the site changed. The name changed from Spaceport City to Tatooine. I had created a free logo using the Cooltext.com website. I had put up some images and a bit of information. Since the beginning I had put in a counter as it was the in thing. Was I getting visitors? No. The only numbers being clocked in were my friends. Later I added GIF images borrowed from other sites to try and make it look cool. Instead it was cluttered. I switched addressses from members.spree.com/spceportcity to members.spree.com/bobbafett1 (intentionally misspelled). I had gotten some free buttons from Cooltext.com (I used to use this site alot). I knew nothing of creating my own images. After about two years I learned how to use Paintshop Pro to create simple buttons. I used it's animation program to create banners. I was at Spree.com for about three years and managed to gain only nine-hundred visitors. Spree.com then decided to scrap their hosting service and so I was forced to move out. I took my site to Homestead where I thought I would be safe. They had merged with Starwars.com to create the FanSites. I had created a newsletter with about four subscribers, three of them being friends who really didn't read it much. I sent out about three before I decided to do away with it. After a while Homestead did away with the FanSites and I was left without a home again. I decided to go to Angelfire but their upload process wasn't that good and overall I didn't like it there. I then moved to Geocities and this is where I've been. This will also be our first year's anniversary here at Geocities. When I first moved the site here it was still called Tatooine, it was basic and in five years only had managed to gain one-thousand and one hundred visitors. In our first month here in Geocities we only had twenty-seven visitors, which diminished to twenty in the next month. The pattern did not look good. In our one year here, though, we have managed to surpass that number. Through the years I have learned advanced HTML, DHTML and Javascript. I learned how to use Adobe Photoshop and I now create my own logos, buttons and banners. The layouts that I have used are: 1) plain centered text 2) cluttered images 3) frames and 4) tables, the layout we use now. The names have changed from Spaceport City to Tatooine to Star Wars Information Database (SWIDB). I have switched homes four times and now consist of a staff of three which includes my sister, fiancee and me. The site has grown with information and we're still not done. It may not be the most popular site around but I love it. I worked hard to make it what it is now. It is one of my greatest accomplishments. Not putting it on the Web, not changing the look and not creating my own logo but my devotion. I could have quit along time ago but I didn't. For about five years I worked on this site alone. I did the research, I did the logos and I did the updates. I love Star Wars and i love informing people about it. That's what it was all about.

We thank all of our visitors. This site was created for you. We hope we have informed and that you have enjoyed your stay. This sermon is dedicated to all of you.
