In the beginning there was the Stage, and the Stage was without lights or sets, and darkness was on the face of the actors. And the TD said "Let there be Lights" and the Techies worked and wired and there were spotlights and specials, areas and gobos and backlighting, yeah lights of all shapes and sizes and hues. And the TD saw that the lights were aimed and focused, gelled according to each scene, and no more did darkness cloud the faces of the actors.

And the curtain rose and fell on the first day.

And the TD looked upon the actors and saw that - although they walked in light, they did walk upon a bare stage, and the TD was moved to pity. And the TD said "Where the hell's the set?" and the Techies scrambled and worked, and there was a set - with platforms, wagons, stairs, and furniture of various kinds according to each scene. And the actors did walk within the set and did have a place to be. And the TD saw the set and that it was good.

And the curtain rose and fell on the second day.

And the TD saw the actors, that although they did have a place to be, they did look like fools for they waved their hands, clutched at open air and struck at each other with nothing. And the TD was moved to pity and said "Let there be Props!" and the Techies worked feverishly and did buy and build and borrow and sign waivers, and there were props.

And the curtain rose and fell on the third day.

And the TD called to the Costumer, who saw that the actors did go forth in blue jeans, and the Costumer knew this would not do. And the Costumer said "Let there be Costumes" and the Techies did cut and sew and shape and there were costumes, each sized to the actor, according to the period of the play and in keeping with the role. And no more did the actors go forth in blue jeans, and the Costumer saw the costumes, that they were good, and warned the actors that should they smoke or eat or drink in the costumes, they would surely die.

And the curtain rose and fell on the fourth day.

And the TD watched the play, and saw that the actors did wait in silence. And he was moved to pity. And the TD said "SOUND!" and the technicians did scurry, record cues, cut tape, run cable, place speakers, and set levels. And the TD heard the sounds and they were good.

And the curtain rose and fell on the fifth day.

And the TD looked around and said "Lo, all these works were completed in 5 days, showing that if God had used sufficient techies, he would have finished sooner." And then the Director did arrive, and he looked at the stage and said "those lights are too green - we talked about this. And that doorway is too narrow, and those broadswords are too wide. That costume has too many ruffles, and the sound effects all sound tinny. Can we do it over." And the Techies commenced to rebuild, repaint, regel, rehang, recut and refit - and they were glad for they were all making double-time. And they rebuilt in one day the entire show they had built in five, and the show did open, and it was good.
