Wisdom from the Past: theatre's been around a long, long time. Certain truths have been established. Most of these are technician specific, but others apply to everyone.

Techies/Designers:

• Give not unto the actors his props before his time, for as surely as the sun does rise in the East he will break them.
• When told the placement of props by the Director, write not these things in ink upon thy script, for as surely as the winds blow, he shall change his mind.
• Speak not in the language of the techie to actors, for they are uninitiated and will not perceive thy meaning.
• Remember that the TD is never wrong - if it appears that he is, you misunderstood him the first time.
• Beware the stage manager when flying in setpieces, for he will want to "supervise" and will stand and watch and be crushed.
• Beware actors when flying in setpieces, for they will be curious, and will stand and watch and get crushed.
• Beware actors during scene changes for they are not like you and are blind in the dark.
• Do not get carried away with the glow-tape or thy stage will be like unto an airport.
• Actors and technicians can always get along. Just have a large roll of duct tape and a large hammer with you at all times - there will be no problems what so ever.

Directors:

• Speak not in large words to actors, for they are slow of thought and are easily confused.

Actors:

• Take not offense when Directors or Techies speak to you like you're an idiot. The illusion that you are mentally negligent permits you to ignore any notes you choose and do what you like. All will assume you forgot or didn't understand.

All:

• Leave not the area of the stage during the play to talk with your fellows, for as surely as you do, you will be in danger of missing your cue and will be summarily executed.
• Don't fall and get blood on the stage. We don't have time to clean it up, and we don't want to fill out that lengthy accident report.
• Listen carefully to the instructions of the director as to how he wants things done - then do it the right way. He will see thy wisdom, give himself the credit, and rejoice.
• Keep holy the first performance - for after it you shall party.
• Keep holy the last performance - for after it you shall party.
