THE VESTRY OF ST. ANDREWS EPISCOPAL CHURCH
The Vestry is the governing body of the Church comprising 12 men and women elected by the general parish members at the Annual Parish Meeting. The Vestry meets approximately once a month with the Rector to set policies, administer funds, and generally oversee the operation of the Church. Vestry members are elected for staggered three-year terms so that with election, new members are elected to replace retiring members.

ATTRIBUTES OF OUR VESTRY MEMBERS
They have responded to the call of their baptism to be servants of God and their brothers and sisters in Christ.
They rarely miss attendance at worship on Sunday.
They are leaders in the parish in the proportion of their income that they return to God's Church.
They are aware of and involved in the parish's Christian Education program.
They believe prayer helps them discern God's leading, and they pray regularly to discern it.
They are in the forefront in greeting newcomers and helping them feel welcome in to the congregation.
They will work with the clergy, staff and other members of the parish to form an environment of mutual trust and loyalty.
They are not afraid to take a stand or be fearful of conflict when a particular situation calls for people to stand up andbe counted.
They understand that they are called not only to advise the clergy, but also to minister to them and the other members of the congregation.
They realize that they are called to active leadership in the parish even when their term on the vestry ends.
WHO MAY SERVE ON THE VESTRY?
No person shall serve as a member of the Vestry until he or she has subscribed to the following declarations:
"I am persuaded that the Holy Scriptures contain all doctrine required as necessary for eternal salvation through faith in Jesus Christ; and I accede to the Doctrine, Discipline and Worship of the Protestant Episcopal Church."
"I accept the biblical tithe as the minimal standard of giving."
"I will attend the Bishop's Stewardship conference during my tenure of the Vestry."
No retiring Vestryman, elected by the Congregation for a full term, shall be eligible for reelection until a period of one year shall have elapsed, unless approved in writing by the Bishop.
Almighty and ever living God, source of all wisdom and understanding, be present with the Vestry for the mission of your Church. Teach the Vestry in all things to seek first your honor and glory. Guide them to perceive what is right, and grant both the courage to pursue it and the grace to accomplish it; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. |
