On with Chapter 4…

The Western Lands…

Sesshoumaru came upon his castle just as the sun was appearing over the horizon.  The Demon Lord was greatly relieved to be home.  ‘Now for a hot bath and a little time together with Rin,’ thought Sesshoumaru, with just a hint of wistfulness.  Sesshoumaru landed on his private balcony and proceeded to take his bath.  After a little bit, Sesshoumaru got out of the hot springs and changed into a less formal kimono.  It was white, of course, with a blood red sash.  Now to visit Rin…

Rin’s quarters…

Kagome had spent the entire day with the young Rin.  Now, the young charge of Sesshoumaru was tucked neatly in bed, waiting for the Miko to tell a story.  “What kind of story should I tell, Rin-chan?” Kagome asked.  Rin smiled tiredly, “Tell me a story about Sesshoumaru-sama.”  Kagome searched her brain.  Story: Once upon a time, there lived a noble prince.  He had everything his heart desired.  The love of his mother; the respect of his father, the king.  Then, one day, all that changed.  His mother, the most important thing in the young prince’s life, fell gravely ill.  In a matter of hours, the queen was dead.  The young prince was heartbroken.  Yet, to his young heart, he still had the respect of his father to get him through the tragedy.  But that too was not to be; for a month later, the king had set his eyes upon a new queen.  The young girl was no more than eighteen years old and a villager to boot.  But the king’s heart, heavy with loneliness, was captured.

So it was at the young prince’s fourteenth birthday that the marriage was announced.  The prince was enraged.  Consumed by agonizing grief and a wicked anger, the prince confronted his father.  “How dare you take another wife! After Mother has just passed on!”  The young prince could not stand the sight of the happy couple.  So off into the night he fled.  A week passed, than a month.  The young prince returned to his home, determined to ensnare his father’s wife in some treachery.  But there was still another shock.

The new queen was pregnant.  Not only that but the king had robbed the prince’s birthright, a most powerful sword that could slay one hundred men at a time, and gave it to the unborn child.  The young prince’s heart closed up forever.  His half-brother was born eight months later and further stole all light from the prince’s heart.  Now, he had nothing.  A worthless inheritance, for his father had given him his other sword, one that could heal one hundred men at once.  What could a now cruel prince do with a healing sword when he wanted to destroy? End of story.

Just outside Rin’s quarters…

Sesshoumaru approached Rin’s quarters looking forward to seeing his young charge.  Upon reaching Rin’s quarters, Sesshoumaru heard the Miko’s voice speaking to Rin in a soothing tone.  The Demon Lord tuned in.  Kagome was telling Rin a story…a story…a story that sounded much like his own.  Sesshoumaru opened the door just as Kagome finished tucking Rin in for the night.  The Miko turned in surprise, hair flying loose around her shoulders.  Sesshoumaru sucked in his breath at Kagome’s breath-taking appearance.  “I see you have found out one of my secrets…” Sesshoumaru bit out.

Kagome flushed in embarrassment.  “I am sorry if I have intruded, Sesshoumaru-sama. But I have been lonely for companionship.”  The Demon Lord smirked arrogantly.  “Aren’t I companion enough, Miko-san?”  Kagome turned an even brighter shade of red.  Gaining a bit of courage, Kagome bit out sarcastically, “I am sure you are, my Lord.”  Sesshoumaru chuckled darkly.  The sound startled Kagome and sent shivers up her spine.

The Demon Lord led Kagome out of Rin’s room and towards the hot springs.  “In case, you were wondering…I have my own private hot springs. You are welcome to them.”  With that, Sesshoumaru left Kagome to decide on her own.  The miko huffed off to her room in a tizzy.  ‘How dare he! That arrogant, slimy bastard! Eavesdropping and then embarrassing me!’ Kagome stormed as she reached her room.  Throwing the doors open, the miko grabbed a towel and spare kimono and headed off to the hot springs, little knowing Sesshoumaru had just entered as well.

The hot springs…

Sesshoumaru didn’t know why he had decided to take another dip, but the idea of seeing Kagome flustered was decision enough.  The Demon Lord had chosen a more secluded spring, hidden by rocks and palms, in order to observe his guest.  The doors clicked open.  ‘Ah…there she is,’ Sesshoumaru noted lazily.  Kagome looked around at the beautiful hot springs.  The room itself was a combination of marble and natural rock.  At different levels of rock and marble, there stood a steaming pool.  There were ten pools all together…(Kagome can’t see the hidden spring).  Kagome sighed in contentment even before picking a spring to bath in.  Kagome set her change of clothes down and undressed.  The Miko had wrung out her swimming suit and dried it so now she could still bathe clothed somewhat.  Kagome stepped into a pool that was situated right in the middle of the room.  Finally, Kagome could relax in peace…

Sesshoumaru watched avidly as Kagome slid into the middle pool.  ‘What is that girl wearing?’ Sesshoumaru wondered.  Creeping just a little closer, the Demon Lord could see just overtop the Miko.  She was wearing some sort of body suit surmised the curiosity of said Sesshoumaru.  Sesshoumaru felt a rush of heat go down his spine to rest in the regions below.  Groaning, the Demon Lord made for the back entrance to the springs.  Thankfully, Kagome seemed to have fallen asleep.  Sesshoumaru slipped out.

Kagome had just nodded off when she felt the slightest bit of air brush against her shoulder.  The Miko opened her eyes and looked to where the palms appeared to have been disturbed.  Eyes narrowing, Kagome moved quickly out of the water, dried and dressed.  Running to her room, Kagome’s heart thumped heavily in anticipation of an attack.  None came and the Miko had to wonder if it was just her imagination playing tricks on her senses.
