Finders Keepers

On the way to the west…

Kagome signaled for Kouga to come to the campfire for the night.  The journey was uneventful, with only a few stray demons trying to make a break for the Shikon.  The wolf prince remained alert, for he had picked up a whiff of their pursuers scent.  It was the scent of an inu-youkai, not Inuyasha, but a different kind.  Kagome looked at Kouga’s troubled form.  “What’s wrong, Kouga?” the Miko inquired.  Kouga stiffened a bit, “We are being followed, Kagome. We leave now.”  Kagome grabbed her pack and bow.  Earlier on, Kagome had changed into the extra set of clothes she had.  The clothes were similar to her miko attire but were white and blue.  Kouga placed Kagome on his back and took off.

Meanwhile…

‘I am almost upon her,” thought Sesshoumaru.  The Demon Lord came upon a still lit campfire.  Testing the air, Sesshoumaru grunted.  ‘Another youkai is with Miko-san…’  Sesshoumaru followed close after his target.

“Kouga! Look out!” Kagome yelled at her companion.  Kouga was fighting a tiger youkai who had come across the weary travelers.  Kouga slashed the tiger across the face and went in for the kill.  But the fiend was one step ahead of the wolf prince and punched a hole through Kouga’s stomach.  Kagome drew an arrow and shot at the youkai tiger.  The arrow hit its mark dead on and the fiend disintegrated.  But Kouga…he was badly injured.  Kagome rushed over to his side and tried to heal him.  “No. Kagome…cough Leave me.”  Kagome cried out, “No! I will not lose another friend.”  The wolf prince smiled, “I will be fine, Kagome. My pack has been keeping watch…cough” This time, it was blood that came up out of Kouga’s mouth.

Tears came to Kagome’s eyes as she clutched at her friend’s body.  “You…you cried for me…Kag.ome…” With that, Kouga passed out from the pain. Kagome did not have time to compose herself when there was a voice.  “Miko-san.”  Kagome looked up into the eyes of Sesshoumaru.  “Sesshoumaru?” Kagome whispered.  The Demon Lord gently grabbed Kagome’s arm and stood her up. “Why are you out here alone, Miko?”  Kagome answered, “Inuyasha…he…he destroyed my village.”  Sesshoumaru nodded. “That is why I ask. Where did you think you would go?”  The Miko smiled faintly, “I was coming to you, Sesshoumaru.”  The Demon Lord looked down at Kagome in faint surprise.  “Why me, Miko-san? You and I…are still at odds.”

Kagome didn’t get a chance to answer.  Kouga’s tribe surrounded the clearing.  A demon named Yashi came up to Kagome, “Kagome-sama…what happened?”  “We were attacked by a Tiger youkai. Kouga is gravelly injured,” Kagome addressed the entire pack, turning from Sesshoumaru.  The wolves collected their fallen leader and motioned for Kagome to come.  Kagome hesitated and looked back at Sesshoumaru.  “Miko. You come with me.”  Kagome sighed and spoke to Yashi.  The wolf demon nodded, “Thank you, Kagome-sama.”  With that, the wolf tribe disappeared.  Kagome turned back to the Demon Lord. “Sesshoumaru…” The Demon Lord nodded and the two rivals traveled westward once again.

Hope’s you enjoy…
